New driver and insurance coverage

If a teen breaches the conditions of their Maryland provisional license by taking an under-18yo friend as passenger before 151 days have passed, are they still covered by the auto insurance?

How would the insurance company know? Was the driver involved in an accident?

Yes, I meant would the insurance coverage still be valid if the new driver caused an accident? As an example, if the new driver gave a friend a lift to soccer practise and caused an accident on the way.

I don’t live in Maryland, but I would expect the insurance company to cover the claim. Assuming the driver was ticketed, your insurance rates will double.
