Which single spice you dislike most?

I used to hate it just like you. Then I discovered that I was using it wrong! First of all you need the right one to buy, NOT the smoked one but normal one as the smoked one is goooooooooofy!!!

Then once you have normal one, you HAVE to slightly cook it in oil on the pan before you add it to other dishes, that way it is a GAME changer.. it changes the flavor and kills that raw stupid taste and the depth of aroma is beyond divine.

Use the same method for adding dry spices as Indian cooking calls for, they know what to do with those things because they are Wizard of anything spicy.

But I can understand aversion to fennel, anise, and tarragon if you don't like licorice. Oddly enough, I can't stand licorice, and I'll take a hard pass on tarragon. But fennel and anise don't bother me.

YOU MADE ME sick!!! Just reading about this made me nauseous..

Oh... to me the Parmesan smells like dirty socks.. what a perfect combination those two would make!!!!!

Oh goodness.. Out of all the ginger bread spices / cider spices I can smell it and smell it all day long.. what's wrong with me?

Into the garbage..

It goes!

There's a genetic component to your dislike. For some people, they have a genetic variation that affects their taste and cilantro will taste like soap. This is why there is such a love/hate relationship with cilantro.

Thanks for that! I am Southern European! How funny is that!

Weird how many of you dislike cumin and other spices common to Indian cooking - I think they’re the most wonderful, and they’re also very healthful. It makes me sad how late in life I ‘discovered’ Indian food and cooking.

I was JUST wondering about this, what make people like some stuff and not the other and is it associated with genes
or some deficiencies or diseases or what?

Thanks for the link!!!

I would think Cilantro is not one of them.

Perhaps we all perceive spices just like we do colors..
what one person likes the other dislikes
and also some people see the same color very differently!

Nope, it's my favorite. I put that stuff on/in everything

Ok, then. What is left to say! Never invite me for a dinner!

Smoked paprika is superior

How is your thyroid?
Pepper affects the thyroid function. Maybe your body reject it because you have some issues?

I genuinely have no idea why people like it - I intellectually understand it tastes different to me, but I have a hard time imagining it. Why would you eat soap?

Think about an aromatic food, like basmati rice with cardamom- it's a bit perfumy/soapy but so so good. That's how we feel about cilantro!

I hate curry because I had to eradicate the aroma from my home when I bought it. It took weeks of money and labor. Before that, I enjoyed it, but after all that work (and one cabinet I couldn't get the aroma out of,
I just can't bring myself to smell or eat anything with it. Negative association.

We’re the former owners Indian? I am not Indian but love Indian food. I am selling my house soon. Maybe I should stop cooking it until the house is sold?
