Wow “Virgin River” is so bad! Like 1980’s Lifetime bad

I was thinking the same thing about soaps! I posted earlier about how lazy and poor the writing is. I finished watching and actually kind of enjoyed it by the end.

My mom had seen all the episodes and I was talking about it with her the other day and she said: It's like the old soap operas. I realized she was exactly right...Virgin River is like old school soap operas. I watched Santa Barbara in high school, All My Children in college. Virgin River has the quick turnaround story lines, the okay/sketchy acting, the cheesy local events (Lumberjack games?!?). I feel like Susan Lucci would have fit in perfectly in this show (as Muriel maybe?). In terms of mindless entertainment it was exactly what I needed during a week alone.

I was thinking this as well! So many soap tropes. Wes turning out to have a just-as-evil twin, played (I think??) by the same actor, was another classic. Jack's amnesia also kind of fits this, even if they didn't play it up as much as a soap might. Will they age up the twins so they can have their own romantic storylines?

I think old school soaps had better writing and more interesting characters and storylines than Virgin River.

Virgin River is legit awful. The only good thing about it is the soundtrack. The music is really good. I listen to it while I work.

No comments on Jack’s copper highlights in season 3???

How did we go a whole season and Charmaine is still barely showing? And I’m still waiting for a paternity test showing Jack’s not the twins’ father.

Some of the worst dialogue writing I’ve ever seen not on a non-student written/acted middle/high school play— no wonder the acting seems so bad. Very few could make those lines seem believable? The awkwardness painfully palpable. For some inexplicable reason, though, I just keep (binge) watching it. If I were having to wait a week between episodes, I doubt I’d have gotten past the first couple episodes. Why am I doing this to myself?

Charmaine has to be carrying the smallest twins ever.

*** SPOILER ALERT ***

So, I re-read what I wrote (above) because right after I posted it, the scene with Lilly’s death played, and I need to edit something. This is the absolute worst writing and acting I’ve seen ever. Period. Bar none. And yet… I’m still watching the next episode. Call it masochistic intrigue, I suppose. I’m 12 weeks postpartum, so I’m going to blame it on the hormones, I guess. That, and the complete lack of sleep brain-mush that comes from having a newborn. Too bad! With the setting, music and concept, it had the potential to really work. Swing and a miss

We should be friends ☺️

I have been thinking the same thing.

I watch simply because the actor who plays Jack is so sexy.

I thought so, too…until the kayaking episode when he wore black leggings. He has short skinny legs like a petite chain smoking women.

Are you the poster who wrote that helen hunt has aged like rotten milk in another thread?

Has she been pregnant since season one? She should be huge by now.
