...but this would have been ok if she had been young and waxed. OK. Weirdo. |
^^if you all don’t think the old men stand around with their wangs out in the men’s locker room, you’re insane. |
I think bathrooms are a little different b/c everyone is only undressed in a stall, so he's unlikely to see a schoolmate or someone he knows naked. It's not so much seeing the moms changing, it's seeing their peers when it's a decision about a locker room. |
NOPE. If you can't send your son to a male locker room, you need to find a different pool with a family changing room. Sorry helicopter. |
I haven't read this whole thread and this might have already been said, but keep in mind that it is sometimes difficult to know with certainty what gender a kid is. If you saw my 8-year old daughter you'd probably think she was a boy. She chooses to have short hair and wear athletic clothes, and when swimming she wears shorts and a rash guard. I notice that we sometimes get looks in the locker room. I try to make a point of using her name out loud so that adults might understand she's a girl but other kids don't usually pick up on that and only react to what they see.
I'm sure this isn't the case in most instances, but it is possible that a child you see in the girls locker room that looks like a boy is actually a girl. |
How incredibly sad that grown men can be such animals that no one will let their children near them. Actually, I wouldn’t even use the family locker room because I didn’t want the men in their around my daughters. I don’t care if they are dads. I completely understand why everyone is hiding from them in the ladies’ locker room. So tired of this issue. |
Could we for one minute stop with the body hatred? Old, young, fat, thin, waxed, hairy...it's all fine. Children will only be traumatized by the sight of the naked body if they've been taught it's a thing to hate and fear and be ashamed of. |
My dear gf has a 13 year old autistic son; he functionally operates in life similar to a four/five year old.
In cases of boys with disabilities, seven and unders, in lieu of no family restroom , I think most women are fine with it. Very few would make a huge stink of it. The ones who would lack compassion. |
This. |
I’m so glad my gym forbids opposite sex children in locker rooms regardless of age. Go to the family locker room or change at home past the age of 2. |
13 YO boy in the ladies’ locker room? No one would do this. Would be embarrassing for everyone involved. At a certain point, you just have to follow the rules and think of the group instead of yourself. No one feels comfortable with that. |
^^And I have a relative who is mentally retarded and functions like. 6 year old despite being 47 years old. His mother and sister do not take him into the ladies’ locker room. |
My son always gets called a girl because of his hair. I should just dress him in pink and no one would probably realize it. |
I think it’s just fine. |
I do not and would be very uncomfortable with a 13 year old adolescent boy in a women's dressing room, under almost any circumstance. Particularly with similar age or younger girls present. Even with low functioning capacity, this age and up is going through puberty and not immune to hormones; they're not entirely "little kids" even if mom and dad want to think of them that way. 7 and under? Ok. Much over that, you need to figure out a different situation or remove yourselves (change at home?) Have you interacted with very low functioning special needs adolescents or adults? It can get really, really inappropriate quickly. We can see sexual impulses in young kids. Think of that with a mental disability and the body of a full grown man or close to it. No. |
