he's using "family" but he is trying to do short stay rentals to make money. if its for family, you'd build an addition that matches the house and neighborhood and not stick them in a Days Inn corner unit |
|
How many people are in his “family” that all want to live together? The original home was 4 bedrooms. How many more bedrooms does he need in the 3 story addition to support his family?
I could see maybe 1 floor of the addition, but 3 stories is crazy. |
its going to be a short term rental hotel. men coming in and out all times of the day and night. poor neighbor wont even be able to sell. and her complaints will go no where with the county leadership b/c they'd have to admit changing the SF zoning wasnt a good idea |
|
Basically it sounds like the massive addition is going to go through because followed zoning laws and he can get a variance for the four or 6 inches that he needs in the back corner.
There is no way the county is going to make him tear that down. |

Here is the permit application. https://plus.fairfaxcounty.gov/CitizenAccess/Cap/CapDetail.aspx?Module=Building&TabName=Building&agencyCode=FFX&capID1=REC25&capID2=00000&capID3=00RB7&utm_source=chatgpt.com
The question of “is/will there be an Accessory Living Unit or Accessory Dwelling Unit?” Was answered “no” |
He is so clueless - this interview doesn't make him sympathetic at all. He's full of excuses saying the flat roof makes it "modern". Love how he thinks he's a great neighbor because he shared his persimmon fruit. |
Honest question because I don’t know. Is there a difference between an addition and an accessory dwelling unit? |
I agree with him these original homes in the DC area are way too small, we found that for our family we wanted at least 4000sf home and with a nanny and extended family we made it 8000sf and its a good size |
| Other than it being pretty close to the other house, the main complaint that everyone has is that it's not aesthetically pleasing. Who cares? The way these neighbors talk, you'd think he stole a part of their property and put a house on there. |
It opens the door to other monstrosities, it blocks the light, there will be a water issue due to the roof. But if he were to bump out the existing roof line, it won't be as aesthetically unpleasing. |
Not aesthetically pleasing is not the issue here and you know it PP. It is like saying that Hitler had a negative personal energy to him. |
…did this guy decide to give his first interview to an anti-immigration group lmfao. What on earth made him think that was a good idea. I mean beyond the blatant stupidity of the addition wtf |
Lmfao |
| This was a horrible idea. Stupid people voted for this. |
This stuck on unit is a lazy hack job to save money and get sq.ft addition on the cheap. It's pretty clear it's to cut costs having to redevelop the entire lot and rebuild (which would use space more efficiently than leaving the same old home intact). Instead they plopped a fugly box too close to the other property line, because "multigenerational living" Yea right.. When you add more family members you also add more income to the household, you can sell the old house if you don't want to tear it down and buy one of many abundant mcMansions in the area given you have more income to go around.
Does anyone really believe they have 2-3 adult kids with families who need free rent and cannot support themselves? It's likely going to be income units.
