I think people realize that snitching is NOT anonymous, despite what the county says - and people are not willing to put themselves out there for turning in their neighbors.

It's anonymous in MoCo - I report the blowers and the folks who can't be bothered to shovel the snow off their sidewalks all the time.

If it’s anonymous how could they ever actually enforce it? Even in a civil matter the moving party needs to provide evidence. Anonymous hearsay isn’t evidence.

I hate what is going on with the federal government right now but the leaf blower ban is right out of Trump’s playbook. Come up with something that probably isn’t enforceable (but might be) to scare people into compliance.

For the snow/ice left on the sidewalk it's very simple - they send someone in code enforcement out and when they see the snow/ice on the sidewalk, they issue a citation. What more evidence is needed - nobody is going to court over this. For leaf blowers, it's different since the action is ephemeral but a note is left that it's was reported with a reminder of the ordinance and a county number to call to discuss.

The point is, a report can be made anonymously in MoCo.

That’s the same approach Trump takes. I’m also highly skeptical code enforcement is coming out while there’s snow or ice on a sidewalk because it’s hard to get them to come out for life safety violations in apartments on sunny days.

I don't know about apartments, I'm in a SFH. They make it most of the time and they report status on the ticket(you get a ticket number). But, I'm only reporting in more "extreme" cases. That is to say, it's been many days past the time that everyone else has managed to clear it and the other criteria I personally use as a threshold on reporting is that they have bothered to shovel their personal sidewalk and driveway but leave the public sidewalk in front of their house iced over. If I see this, I'm reporting every time. Last year, it didn't snow enough or stay cold long enough for this to be an issue to report but in years past it has and I've reported it, and they've come out and the result is the owners take action.

So, it's worked for me in the past and fully expect it to work in the future.

It sounds like you’re really popular in the neighborhood but I’m glad you can get immediate service from code enforcement while others have to live with rats.

DP

It’s NOT anonymous. It requires a video clip to be submitted. That video, besides being a public record subject to FOIA, also includes metadata in the clip information. Not too mention being a pretty good clue as to who took the video, since they’re probably shooting it from their own property in the first place, so it’s pretty easy to identify the source of the complaint.

Y’all fascinate me. You go to “no kings” protests and Pat yourselves on the back and act like you’re saving freedom itself, and then you act like little tyrants in your own communities, turning in your neighbors for the wrong kind of leaf blower.

Y’all are much, MUCH worse than Trump.

If those lawn service employees are here illegally, they SHOULD be arrested and deported.

Calm down Trumpie

I mean mowing and mulching the leaves is all you really need. We do blow out the beds, however.

To what benefit? They are working hard and keeping our lawn care costs down? Who will do those jobs?

I would much rather have them in this country than your sorry butt

Too bad... you seem like you're 19 and I was here and paying taxes before you.

+ 1 so done with trying to be made to feel like we owe the world everything

I read the title as “glass blower ban” and I was like wow, that seems so extreme.

All the landscapers at the County facilities still use gas leaf blowers.

County facilities aren't residential. Do as I say.

We have an electric blower for leaves in the fall, the electric ones are significantly quieter, just require recharging the battery.

I have a Stihl electric leaf blower. It’s every bit as loud as a typical gas blower.

One of the TV stations did a story where they compared noise levels from gas powered and electric leaf blowers. The results were mixed. Some electric blowers were louder than gas, and others weren’t.

The fact you need to explain and justify this to them is ridiculous

Just blow off the driveway and sidewalk. The leaves aren't going to attack you, unless you live in an HOA.

How does your lawn not die?

Same but bigger lot - just gonna mulch it up w my JD tractor. Lawn will be fine. But ppl really are anal about having a leaf on their precious green grass.

I just wish they were banned everywhere. If you live on a large condo or appartment complex you listening to 2-3 of these for 2-3 days. Each over 115 decibels each. Hours and hours on end.

The utility companies make a lot of noise. They make a lot of noise at night. Always digging up the road to make repairs. The noise echo's all around the high-rises.

Do you understand science? Specifically, the inverse square law?

Yes, they are indeed 115dB ONE METER from the device. At two meters, they are half as loud. At 4 meters, they are a fraction of that. And so on, geometrically down.

A leaf blower whirring off in the distance 50 or 100 yards away outside your dwelling is literally quieter than a human whisper.

You just don’t like them, that’s all. Stop pretending this is about health and safety.
