Honestly, I’d be happy if they just included a line or two in the Messenger “congratulating honor roll recipients,” even if they didn’t list the names. Sorta lame but better than nothing. It would at least show that they placed some minimal value on academic achievement. Though maybe there’s not enough space in the email after asking for donations and congratulating sportsball players for the 30th time. |
Great! Why don’t you ask the school and report back to us what they said? |
How about a one-liner on DCUM? I’ll handle it:
Congratulations to honor roll recipients! Now can the OP settle down and turn on some sports ball on ESPN 4? |
Why not just get rid of honor roll? It’s sort of stupid and idiotic if you’re not going to announce the recipients. It’s supposed to be HONOR roll, not Anonymous Roll.
What’s the point of a special designation or award if the recipients aren’t announced? Think about it. Dumb. Too bad the mediocre tribe that wants “everyone to be a winner” is taking over. |
Just ask the school and stop bothering us about it. But I’m curious to know what their answer is… |
FOR THE LOVE OF GOD... please stop posting about this nonsense. |
Not sure what’s weirder, the OP or the multiple, repetitive replies telling her to stop (as opposed to simply not reading the thread). |
A lot of people love sportsball. |
Not worth paying thousands of dollars a year for mediocre sports. |
Sports are fantastic — the ones that emphasize individual strength, persistence, and endurance. Like the ones they had in the ancient Olympics. Sportsball (like the school dwells on, over academics), not so much. |
This is the kind of weird comment I come here for. |
I think St Mary’s should become a grade school weightlifting powerhouse! |
Have you suggested this to the school? Perhaps they agree with you and are dropping honor roll entirely. Good work. |
Yes, I would never want my kid to learn teamwork, develop friendships, acquire grit, learn what it's like to depend on others and be depended on in return, be the one to step up in a big moment and learn how to fail but then dust yourself off and try again, or do any of the other character-building things sportsball teaches. Nor would I want them to watch their sportsball teammates turn into great friends. Nor would I want them to build school spirit and feel connected to their larger community. So stupid. |
CYO sports are a parish activity, not a school activity, parish school kids and CCD kids play on these teams. What mediocre sports programs are taking away from academics at BSSM? |
