If she’s well enough to walk on court and play tennis, she can certainly do a desk job.

There’s also a process to notify authorities of potential fraud.

That is not how disability works. Disability pays you if you can’t do. YOUR job, it doesn’t matter if you could do another job.

WRONG Sherlock.

There’s too much MYOB in society today, when this neighbor is obviously a fraud. We all pay for this somehow.

My coworker has long covid and it’s debilitating. She used to ride motorcycles with her husband and she can no longer driver her own or ride behind on his because she always feels weak. She is out of breath walking across our office floor even without going up or down steps. Some days are better than others but she says her brain is always at least a little foggy. She was an active, vibrant woman in her early 50s before Covid. It’s really sad and I can’t imagine how frustrating and depressing it is to be rendered helpless and have your plans for your retirement years dashed.

+1. And, like OPs neighbor, it mysteriously seems to only afflict UMC white women.

It’s the new POTS or CFS.

Actually long covid is believed to be ME/CFS, which has long been triggered in a non unsubstantial portion of the population following viral infection.

And yes, it’s real.

His arm doesn’t work so he can’t shoot a gun.

If you look at him he looks fine but he is disabled, he can’t do his job.

But the qualification for SS disability is unable to perform any job.

Your brother can take a desk job.

My brother is not on SS disability.

Every 1/2 way intelligent person has disability insurance.

Disability insurance is for the intelligent,

OP mentioned SS disability and long term insurance fool.

The insurance policy is paying her. Why do you care?

Its for actual disabled people. If you can read and discuss a novel and plan elaborate vacations, you can push paper at your desk job.

Someone who can’t do their job is actually disabled - that’s a definition under many disability policies.

If I am a surgeon and I permanently damaged a couple of fingers, I am disabled. Yes, I can push papers and plan vacations- that’s not my occupation for which I bought insurance.

An actuary who used to price disability policies.

It’s amazing how unintelligent people that don’t understand disability insurance are.

It’s like buying car insurance for a Porsche and these idiots think your should get a Camry as a replacement when you’re in an accident.

It is if you hire a lawyer who specializes in it to walk you through the process to get the medical documentation and then files the paperwork for you.

I know a family whose adult children (they are well into their 40s) are on disability.

They went to excellent private schools, screwed around in college, dropped out, held low wage jobs periodically, etc. Then the parents figured disability would be steady income, so their “anxiety” was properly documented.

So, yeah…people milk the system.

These are affluent MoCo whites who just don’t want to work.

I dare you to post this in the special needs forum.

They’ll rip you a new one.

OP is an idiot. Every Fed has unbelievably great disability insurance.

In addition, you can buy more on top of that for pennies.

It's the same basic condition just affects different people differently.

These conditions are scientifically quantifiable.

Just because someone can save up energy to do something and then rest afterward does not mean they can do that activity every day.

DP. You don’t seem to understand that most policies have only a limited benefit for own occ disability before it shifts to all occ.

Two things can be true at the same time:

Long covid can be real and debilitating for some people,

And OP’s neighbor could also be abusing the system and faking her condition. I’d probably be on the suspicious side like OP.

They don’t have special needs. Completely neurotypical.

One is an alcoholic in recovery, and the other two have “anxiety.”

They maintain a UMC lifestyle thanks to their parents.

Again: these “kids” are in their 40s.
