I’m not going to win you over but the Holocaust and the founding of the state of Israel are linked, and part of its premise is principles raised in Maus. No? |
That’s a statement about Israel, not the Holocaust literature. Plus what even is the implication? That Holocaust literature cannot be taught unless you both-sides it? Do we also have to take great pains when teaching Reconstruction to point out that African tribes sold each other into slavery? |
This is disturbing. When was the last time dcps/JR has done something like this? Are facts now taking a backseat to feelings? What happens when the war isn't over in time for their spring curriculum plans?
|
That won't happen. Because apparently only the Holocaust generates different viewpoints that must be validated. |
I guarantee what is going to happen is that they add a book from the “Arab perspective” to the syllabus in a way that dilutes the significance of the Holocaust and supports the claim that Zionism is the same as the Holocaust. |
(Oh and while of course also failing to point out the extreme anti-semitism in the Middle East.) |
Which is why it would be useful to know what outside resources they are using to prepare.
This will be telling. |
Well, the BLM Week of Action at JR in February is going to be . . . complicated. To say the least. |
This statement says a whole lot about your own issues. |
https://www.blacklivesmatteratschool.com/teachingpalestine.html
“BLM@School wants to be clear in our recognition that this unfolding loss of Palestinian and Israeli lives is the direct result of decades of Israeli settler colonialism, land dispossession, occupation, blockade, apartheid, and attempted genocide of millions of Palestinians. Palestinians are reminding us that decolonization is not a metaphor or abstraction, but requires real, daily struggle.” |

This. It’s a very dangerous subtext and as someone whose family was practically annihilated by the Holocaust, I find this subtext scary and threatening. Why doesn’t anyone care about my people’s generational trauma? +1 The woke movement has a hard time empathizing with people who continue to thrive in spite of hardship. It’s a threat to their entire narrative. Also, I am very sorry that happened to your family. The DCPS behaviors shine light on the warped ideologies taking over America under the guise of equity. It’s my hope we can correct the course before it’s too late. |
Does dcps actually use this group as guidance? |
Nice, another lazy reply that requires 0% self-reflection of anyone on the left. Maybe it’s time we all recognize ALL humans can be a source of bigotry and discrimination, and every political party has some growing to do. |
