The Herndon Cup was an absolute embarrassment

You get what you pay for and the Herndon Cup provides a nice experience for rec league kids at end of season. Without it your kids would be home, so if you prefer staying at home then just do that and get an early start on your narcissistic Thanksgiving rants

Garbage subhumans like you need to be punched in the face and knock your teeth out

Whoa!

BTW, that quote you're responding to so violently is from 2 years ago. I think you need to see a therapist.

My kid plays SYA rec and he was really disappointed that SYA canceled all stars this year, he really enjoys this tournament. It was never even mentioned to parents as canceled, they just didn't put teams together for above 5th grade when every other previous season, they have. Last spring the put older teams into the terrible valor tournament so I guess they are motivated to do it only when our money goes right to valor profits?

We are going to switch to another rec soccer league in spring and hope its better run then SYA.

SYA rec soccer is awful! Anywhere else is better.

Teacher here . . . I just spoke with three kids in my class who played in the Herndon Tournament this weekend. All three had a great time and said they can’t wait for the next tournament.

Great to hear - I don't even live in the area anymore, but still follow the soccer board because there are national topics. There are some pretty extreme/intense posters here not representative of the overall soccer community, but of course are very loud and divisive.

Which school district do you work in and more importantly can you afford a single detached house in said district?

My son played in the U16B age group. I was shocked that every mini game kicked off within one minute of the scheduled kick-off time on Saturday. Refs were not top quality, but I certainly am not expecting them to be perfect. I can say that we had three officials in each match. Pretty fun event all around.

My daughter would have been so disappointed if our rec league decided 6th grade and up was "too old" for all stars. That's lame!

FCPS. Yes, and a lot more.

+100. My kids had a great time at this tournament. Why would a rec league limit it to just u-littles? That's dumb.

My dd also had a great time.

Frankly, we would quit any rec league like SYA that would be so dismissive of older rec players that they only cared to organize younger teams for all stars.

Is it possible that the older SYA teams just really don’t have enough good players? Doesn’t SYA try to funnel anyone halfway decent into a lower level valor team so they can make more money off them?

No. Last spring they had all star teams at all the age groups in the all star tournament. Last fall they had all star teams at all the age groups in the herndon tournament.

Unless they had a huge exodus due to shoddy program, it doesn't make sense that all of a sudden they don't have any players for all star team over elementary age when they always did
every other season. this seems like a programming/disinterest from management issues.
