Winter Classic was fine. Saturday was the busiest day, and it was not bad. It is such a small meet, which is what makes it fun for the kids even if not as competitive as Turkey Clause or NCAP. |
What happened? |
NP- I am long time swim parent and I always loved this meet. We always stayed in a hotel and had a good time with teammates. My kid made finals for the first time, they had cute t-shirts and awards. |
It’s not as fun as Turkey Claus because it’s a more competitive meet. It’s the nature of the beast, like any club sport being less fun than rec. What was so appalling and disgusting at the men’s 100 free final? |
please tell........ |
ncap boys are usually more problematic the faster they are |
Is that all you have for the disgusting appalling behavior, your dislike of NCAP? |
I'm not the poster who posted about last night, I wasn't at the meet, but that is my personal experience of their sportsmanship. I don't think that some locations of NCAP care to instill good sportsmanship in their boys. I'd love to know what happened last night. |
I mean I do think they don't care to instill good sportsmanship and this may be only at the location I see the most. But the boys taunt and act rude at the one we encounter the most, even at NVSL meets. |
What do you mean by Winter Classic is not a competitive as Turkey Claus? Winter Classic is small because teams invite only their best swimmers. Because of the no faster than entry limits, Turkey Claus isn't open to top tier swimmers. You can see the difference pretty easily by looking at the posted results. At Turkey Claus, 31.89 was fast enough to win boys 10&U 50 free but the same time was well outside of finals (top 8) at the Winter Classic. |
In the A final all the swimmers were ready and at their blocks ready to step up. Except one of the NCap swimmers. He stood around, still dressed. They all waited for him. He took a really long time- all the swimmers and officials (and crowd) were watching him. When he finally got undressed, instead of going to the block, he stood behind it, slapping his chest multiple times, again, with everyone watching him. At this point, the swimmers had all been at their blocks ready to go for at least three minutes. To say that is was unsportsmanlike is an understatement. Also, if you are going to do that, you better win (he didn't). Disgusting. |
I think I would be more upset at the Ref allowing this to happen. Call the start, it is up to the swimmer to be there on the blocks, if not he is a NS. |
It sounds like the blocks would not adjust correctly and so he was busy doing that while everyone else was getting ready. So I don’t think it qualifies as “disgusting”. I do think they should not have waiting that long for him and he was clearly taking an obnoxiously long time. I didn’t see it though. |
Karma - stopwatch never lies! |
This. It is on the starter to call the swimmers to step up on the blocks. |
