I don't know how much a genuine change agent Trone can or will be. I do like the Alsobrooks would be the first black female senator, but a score diversity and identity alone isn't enough for me to vote on. Alsobrooks does seem more moderate and reasonable than other progressives in her party though. But then again, she's got the endorsement of some of those same wack-a-doodles so I don't know.

What's the best case for Trone with regard to crime, public safety and education? Does he have a strong vision to turn things around in those areas that I've missed?

Good point about endorsements. Jawando endorsed Alsobrooks, which makes me question voting for her. We are the company we keep. While I personally like her and I am a PG resident who has voted for her in the past, that endorsement leaves me feeling iffy.

DC Mayor Bowser supports Alsobrooks.

Maybe Gov. Greg Abbot and other Republicans Trone supported in years past will return the favor and endorse him...

Bowser is now politically toxic in the DMV.

Trone’s path to victory is to buy the seat by dumping $100 million from his own personal finances. He’s certainly not going to earn it.

Anyone who wants to be a senator that badly is exactly the kind of person who should NEVER be a senator.

He’s only out to further inflate his immense ego.

No way will I vote for Trone. Last thing we need is another multi millionaire businessman to represent…who? Not average people that's for sure.

If these sorts of vague, meaningless attacks are the only thing that Alsobrooks has, she is going to lose.

Why would anyone elect to the Senate the county executive of PG County, the worst-run county in Maryland?

“Alsobowser” is failing to gain altitude. Trone increasingly is likely to win the Dem nomination.

But isn’t the question how much she has improved it? I mean if you inherit something fabulous and turn it into something okay that’s clearly worse then inheriting something bad and turning it into something okay.
I don’t know the answer but I think it’s a relevant question. She’s clearly better than many of the predecessors — remember Jack Johnson flushing cash down the toilet?

I really don’t know which would be better.

Trone has a very shady past with his company, Total Wine. He (and his wife) had some criminal legal troubles in Pennsylvania (“negotiating volume discounts on behalf of multiple stores,” “illegally advertising beer prices,” “circumventing state transportation regulations,” and more — see Wikipedia page on Trone). Yet he always seemed to beat the charges by getting them dropped or dismissed.

Politically, he has been underwhelming. And he’s a known carpetbagger. He ran for Congress in the old MD08 when he didn’t even live there…it was the most expensive congressional race to date (and still might be). His message was not there at all. Now, it appears as though he is appealing to the teachers and the wrongfully convicted in his commercials. But where are his long term community receipts? Has he done the work. Absolutely not. This is Trone trying to buy another seat. Period.
Alsobrooks definitely has the establishment behind her, but she must refine her message. Prince George’s definitely isn’t perfect, but she has restored integrity and brought a lot more business to the county, not to mention that it’s a better place to live now. That’s no small feat.

+1. Polls show Trone ahead.
