So, this is the "new" south?

These three lawmakers did their job, they advocated for the citizens they represent. The GOP has no rational reason for choosing weapons of war over CHILDREN. So they did what authoritarian government would do, they attacked the messengers instead.

I think they made a huge miscalculation ejecting these two lawmakers. They are smart, passionate and eloquent and now the whole world knows their names.

Oh stop it. Those “legislators” had a 45 minute tantrum in the People’s House. Then they got up and did the Martin. Luther. King. Jr. thing where you place. a. period. after. each. word. There was a place for this performance—it’s high school oratory competitions.

Rep. Farmer didn’t want to introduce the resolution expelling these “representatives”. But they couldn’t just apologize for their incivility and for inciting their supporters to protest in the Halls of the Legislature. So what was he supposed to do with such insolence? They had to be expelled. And around the country people said “Finally someone is dealing with entitled woke brats.”

The only fools that are saying this are old boomers, who are dying out. Do you realize how of those protesting kids will be eligible to vote in 2024? With this action, Republicans will continue to lose ground with Gen Z.

I think you will find that outside the Fox/Newsmax bubble--including the international press--most of the media and people in democratic countries will see this situation for what it is: a shockingly undemocratic flex of (RW) power. It is not a good look, and it will not serve that legislature well, particularly given that the "insolence" centered on reducing gun violence and school shootings. There is nothing "woke" about not wanting children to be shot to death in school.

OMG. For ONCE could you not focus on their gender or race???

Consider for a moment that if you're tired of hearing people cite race and gender as possible reasons for unfair treatment, that it's happening an awful lot.

And that if it's happening so often that you're tired of hearing it, maybe just maybe they're right? That maybe people of color and women get shafted too often for it to just be coincidence?

We're honestly tired of having to point it out. Maybe we should fix it, so we can all stop talking about it.

Maybe stop trying to create race wars.
And, while you are at it... stop with the gender wars too.
It is almost as if you folks are trying to distract from Biden's absolutely horrific record by drumming up nonexistent issues.

Pretty rich coming from the person defending the expulsion of two black delegates.

DP. They could be purple for all I care. Why is being black some kind of protection from consequences of bad behavior? The more you play the race card, the dumber you look.

Because 1) this was unprecendented to begin with and 2) the fact the white lady was not expelled told the story.

Just a month ago, one of these fine Tennessean good old boys suggested that they bring back lynchings as a means of execution.

Rep. Paul Sherrell, R-Sparta, made the suggestion during a Criminal Justice Committee meeting Tuesday while lawmakers discussed HB1245 and an amendment to the bill that would allow for death by firing squad as an execution method in Tennessee.

"I was just wondering, could I put an amendment on that that would include hanging by a tree, also," Sherrell asked during the meeting.

He then offered to sign on as a co-sponsor to the bill.

I get that here in the tiny echo chamber of DCUM, these three show boaters are now martyrs and heroes to the left. But out in the real world, most people are quite happy to see disrupters being dealt with. May it be a trend that continues.

What would you be saying had the white lady been expelled but not the two black men? "Misogyny!!" Is there any combination of races/genders that would be acceptable to you - or is it just white men who you're ok with expelling/arresting/sanctioning?

This country was founded by disrupters. Someone had to do something to draw attention to legislatures that are putting guns above the lives of children. Let’s not forget their “show boating” was to bring attention to the fact the GOP controlled government is doing nothing to control access to guns.

Again, the "disrupters" you are talking about are people who were advocating for children and against gun violence in the wake of a recent school shooting. JFC, if there were ever an issue that should motivate people to ask/beg/demand that their legislators do something, Most people are more upset about the slaughter of children than they are about peaceful protests (what you call "disruptions"). For the 100th time, in this country we have a right to protest peacefully.

A majority of Americans support some form of gun control, and a majority of the population that was protesting in the Tennessee state capital were younger people. I'm not sure what "real world" you're referring to, but most people, especially young voters, will not be happy to see such overreach-especially for a simple protest.

You are the one in an echo chamber. Recent polls show again and again that a majority of Americans want stricter gun laws. More importantly, the younger generation, which has grown up with school shootings and active shooting drills, is most likely to want better gun laws. You are in a minority on this issue. Being a keyboard warrior on this site won't change that.

Lots of buzz about Tennessee Football not playing in the state.

Wonder if fedex supports this. They must if they are based in Tennessee.

They did neither. They were disruptive and incited the crowd. They were lucky no state troopers were injured.

You guys are going to take this “do your job and follow the rules” schtick all the way to the bottom on the Titanic, eh?

These are not McDonalds employees you can boss around; they are elected officials who represent hundreds of thousands of people and their speech has to be given dramatically wider berth as a result.

You know: the way Trump’s always was.
