Russia did not invade the entire country. Russia never meant to invade all of Ukraine. Russian generals are not idiots who think you can invade all of Ukraine with 180K soldiers.

But apparently they ARE idiots because they are getting their @sses kicked by some random satellite country.

LOL yes let's pretend a random satellite country isn't getting billions of dollars in cash and weapons nonstop. And with all that, the war is heading for a stalemate.

Stalemate essentially means the continued destruction of Ukraine.

I hope this ends soon.

Ukraine doesn’t seem to want it to end (goes without saying that Russia doesn’t either)

We don't know what Ukraine wants. We know what their Comedian Fundraiser-in-Chief wants.

Russian history is difficult to use in effective propaganda, so Russians use WWII like a safety blanket. It's comforting propaganda for them, since it's the last time the Soviets did anything remotely "righteous". Same way the "Nazi" label works because SVR likely recruits ultra-right nationalists. Russian's can't say much before WWII, because Stalin's ethnic purges and holodomor would work against annexation of Crimea, invasion of Ukraine, etc.

I think Putin is just using soldiers to grind as sausage to deflect physical military opposition at home. Population is plummeting, and it's just a matter of time before Russia disintegrates into smaller chunks (they won't be able to hold current territory without population increases).

Someone should have gifted Putin a copy of Civilization IV with a sticky that says "Cultural Victory - it's a thing."

They have all of this culture around WWII and "WE fought the Nazis" when in fact millions of the Soviet troops that fought the Nazis and pushed all the way to Berlin where they drove Hitler to hide in a bunker and eat a bullet were in fact UKRAINIANS. Which makes it completely sick that they've now reinvented the Ukrainians to be the Nazis. Especially when their own home grown Russians keep being found adorned with Nazi symbols.

Because the Ukrainians were so good to the Jews and the Azov Battalion doesn’t exist

You don't understand that things change over time? Again, Zelenskyy, a Jew, was elected with a popular majority, he got 73% of the total votes. A "Nazi" state wouldn't elect a Jew to its highest office with 73% of the vote. Has Russia elected a Jew to its highest office?

LOL you throw this number around but you have no idea why he did. Two pillars of his campaign promises:

1. Root out corruption (fail)
2. Achieve reconciliation with Russia (fail, and told to shut up or be hung)

Also, Zelensky's approval ratings "before" the war: 31%.

You really think Russia wants to ally with the West? We provided them with enormous financial and political support after the fall of the USSR, but their resentment never left. Russia is a paranoid, ethnocentric culture that will simply have to be contained and managed for succeeding generations.

Yes, hon, they did, showed it in many ways in last two decades and in the 1990s. We are the paranoids here, who wants liberal democracy or death.

Other than that Mrs. Lincoln, how was the play?

Don’t take it from me, take it from a real expert:

Abstract
Despite support from and for right-wing elements and a deep-seated national history of anti-Semitism, the policies of the Russian government under Vladimir Putin have been markedly devoid of anti-Semitism. Appeals to nationalist, imperialist, and Eurasianist ideologies, pragmatic politics, and foreign policy concerns fail to explain these policies adequately. The biography of Putin himself, which includes influential, positive relationships with Jews, provides a better explanation. The personalized influence of the president on Jewish policy suggests a personalized, hyper-centralized regime generally.

Oh please. This is just wrong. Ukraine knows what it wants, and wants the war to end. What it wants is for Russia to withdraw. This war could end tomorrow if Russia does that.

They certainly have the international legal right to bomb airbases where Russians stage attacks.

Well right now no one is letting them and they can’t do it themselves. I am saying that they might have an ok later on. And of course it’s impossible to only bomb military objects. Civilians will be affected for sure

Actually, the Ukrainians have been attack bases in Russia which have been used to launch mass civilian attacks. They do it on the DL - special forces sneak operations, quick and dirty close cross border raids with helos and drones, mysterious fires at military institutions deep within Russia with no claim of responsibility. But, you are right that the UKR is forbidden from using HIMARS, and other long range weapons provided by foreign governments, some of which have even disabled weapon ranges that would reach inside Russia.

Yes I know about the drones. So far it’s not very large scale. They may have an ok later on for more serious undertakings

I've read a piece by Abbas Galliamov, Putin's former speechwriter turned critic and political refugee, who is an ethnic Tatar and now lives in Israel. He reports that whatever are Putin's faults, in one aspect he is completely an "ideal Soviet man", and that aspect is an utter absence of any type of ethnic prejudice. If you look at his inner circle, it's pretty diverse ethnically.

I really dislike when people like you pretend to be Americans. Here's a tip. When your soldiers are raping, murdering, pillaging; no one really wants to be "allies" with that.
