For a 5 year period the DMV got more UAM released to sponsors than Texas so all this is just overflow of increased volumes crossing the border. The DMV has been a border state for decades and most revenue for non profits that supports the process for illegal immigration is through government grants. Local one includes CARECEN. https://carecendc.networkforgood.com/projects/158810-help-us-welcome-migrants-bused-in-from-texas "We are not sure how long Governor Abbot will continue to use these immigrants for his own political agenda," So UAM get federal transportation as do sponsors to meet them I guess but others do not. Statistically many on the Union Station buses could want a destination in Fairfax County or MOCO etc so the fault is not the state of Texas which is providing their transportation. |

Oh wow! This is so sad |
Can we just finally clear these tents and unsanitary trash heaps in the public parks, now? And Union Station needs to be reclaimed from the vagrants and drug abusers. |
Didn’t Mayor Bowser close DC’s main shelter and give, uh “sell” the property to her developer crony? |
The federal government allows thousands of undocumented people to come over the United States border per day, and that is a is a “state” problem? DC has received 4,000 immigrants total. That’s how many come over the border per day. Yet DC declared itself a “sanctuary city.” The hypocrisy is all on one side, and its not Texas. |
Agree. I’m so glad Texas did this so people in other states can wake up to what is truly going on. It’s easier to ignore when it’s not in your face. I can usually see two sides to every story but for this one I can’t. |
+1000 Why should Texas have to deal with this problem that was created by Joe Biden in Washington? |
Send all 4,000 to Takoma Park. Let’s see if all those yard signs are really how people feel. |
This!!!! Except hopefully it’s closer to 10,000 in a few weeks. Keep them coming. 3.5 million have crossed the border. It’s laughable that someone cares about 4,000 out of 3.5 million. |
What is your solution to asylum seekers? |
NP but if they are from Mexico then we follow the asylum laws. If they are from a different country and passed through Mexico or other countries before coming here then we follow the law and send them back to the first country they entered and have them apply for asylum there. |
This makes sense. |
Except you're going to have to change the laws first. In some cases we cannot kick them out without giving them a hearing first. And we can't give them hearings because there aren't enough judges to hear their cases. And that leads to a massive backlog in cases. Which means we can't do anything for months, or even a year or two. And we also don't have enough places to put them while awaiting their hearings. So they get turned loose and told to come back when their hearing comes up. Republicans won't authorize or fund more judges to clear the backlog. Probably because they think it will just speed up entry of foreigners. Nor will they fund facilities to house them until their hearings come up because that's "free shit for illegals." But they also won't do anything to change any of the laws that put us in this conundrum in the first place. So there we are. |
If Texas shouldn't, then why should DC? DC residents don't even have representation or a vote in Congress. At least Texas does. If it's fine for Texas to ship them elsewhere it should be fine for DC to ship them elsewhere. Like maybe back to Texas where they can go bug their Representatives to pass some legislation since DC residents can't. |
