For those on Ozempic

Are you meant to take this medication for the rest of your life? Or, does your doctor have a wind down method to wean off the drug?

Also, have you noticed any side effects?

Thank you.

OMG Me too. I mean, it's been a whole freaking day since someone started this topic.
I can't wait.

I saw on instagram that people are getting pregnant easier while on it- even older ladies. Haha so there’s a good side effect for you!!

Everyone is so skinny now. I know 7 women who have been fat for the last 10 years who are now straight up skinny!

All of them dropped the weight fast. Huge difference.

All but one claim it’s because they started walking.

I do have to say they all look fabulous!

My dr wants me to stay on it for at least a year. I'm open to staying on it, at the lowest effective dose, for long term-I've had success and my bloodwork has improved dramatically and I've avoided needing a medication.

No side effects.

I am not TTC but I was having an issue with very short cycles and they went back to normal when I started Ozempic. I didn't think it was the meds so much as losing weight, but who knows.

To OP, I'm open to staying on indefinitely but my doc says most patients go off after a couple years. I've been on the same dose for a while and have kind of stalled out in weight loss, but don't want to go up to the next dose, so TBD on that.
No side effects.

When did you stall. I’ve lost about 25 but would like to lose 10 or 15 more. The last few weeks have been slower than the first few (only losing about a pound a week or less for past few weeks). Are the last few weeks the hardest? I recently incorporated weights into my cardio so maybe that’s playing a role? Over age 40 and hormones and water retention are also a pain…

Can you still get Ozempic? Is it just Mounjaro that isn’t available?

I am on wegovy and intending to take it forever, ideally at lower doses but still. I am fortunate to have a federal employee health plan and have jumped through the prior authorization hoops, and see my insurance (Kaiser) has a process for continuing to stay on it even when a normal BMI has been achieved (and if they kick me off it, I’ll go the compounded route). What’s the difference between being on this and being on a statin or blood pressure med for life? Or the difference in this or being on lithium/seroquel for bipolar or schizophrenia or any other mental health condition? I’ll probably get haters saying I just need willpower but they don’t live in my body or brain. I’ve lost and regained the same hundred pounds including having VSG and regaining half of what I lost during the pandemic. This is the first time in my whole life I’ve not had constant obsessive thoughts about food and I can’t imagine ever going off of it.

Also (im the PP intending to stay on for life) I’ve had plenty of side effects including nausea that was debilitating (a zofran script has helped a lot) and constipation issues. I even went back down to .5 mg because 1 mg was way too much (my experience is not common - many people don’t have any side effects and need to be at 1.7 mg or higher to really start losing). But nothing that so far has outweighed how much better I feel with the 20 lbs I’ve lost off and not constantly planning my next meals or how to hide my binging.

As a person with serious mental health issues among family members, I can assure you that are absolutely detractors who say you shouldn’t stay on lithium for a lifetime.

I’m sorry to hear that. Why do some people feel like medical decisions other people make are up for debate? It’s not like people’s brains magically change over time.

So true! No one says anything about it, they’re just skinny all of the sudden. Two of my acquaintances were slender to start and now look skeletal! I inadvertently saw they were paying for semaglutide via Venmo, so I know that’s how they did it (at least a few months ago).

Aren’t you on a medication if you are taking Ozempic?
