Moving to area u15 girls

Anonymous
We are moving to the area next month from overseas and will live in falls church city. My daughter will be a freshman in HS at Meridian. She wants to play travel soccer as well. She has been playing here (military base), not super competitive because it’s a small community, but she loves soccer. What would be a good club to try? She’d probably make one of the lower teams in a club and that’s fine with us. Looking online Arlington has 5 times at 2010 and McLean has 3 teams. How about Vienna? Villarreal or Lee-Mount Vernon (that’s kind of far for regular practices). Any other clubs near Tyson’s? What would be a good plan for tryouts? Help!

Based on your location, I would suggest mclean or Arlington, but also take a look at PAC.

In Falls Church City, you’re about the same distance to Vienna, McLean, and Arlington for practice fields. PAC is also close, and at least a couple of girls on that HS team play there.

Arlington, McLean, Vienna, and PAC are all decent options and close-ish. If you are already in town, you might try and see if you can practice with a team(s) before tryouts to get a sense of the team. Arlington is the largest and has about 5-6 teams at that age group, McLean will probably have 3, Vienna 2 or 3, and PAC 1 or 2. Only issue with PAC is that as the kids get older, the teams tend to start to fall apart as kids have different interests (high school years).

You could also call the high school coach and ask for any suggestions. They probably have an idea of where some of the current 2010s play.

Thank you all for this info. Of Arlington, Mclean, and Vienna, which would be most likely for a lower level travel player to make? On the website Arlington and Mclean have the same day and time for 2010 girls tryout.

Vienna, McLean, Arlington.

Personally we like McLean. I would reach out to the coaches and explain that you are moving here and see if you could attend a practice with the age group you are interested in

Arlington is hard to break into at that age unless you are a standout player on a higher team. They recruit externally to fill the top, then push current players down to the lower levels. A caveat- is that if you can get your player at practices with the team before tryouts and talk the with coach- she has a better chance.

McLean typically steals Vienna players so do not discount the quality of Vienna. Their girls coaches are next level and worth taking a look at.

The current coach for McLean 2010 White (second team, 3rd if you count the Union ECNL team) is phenomenal - all of the girls and parents love her. The Gold team coach (3rd/4th team after ECNL) also is very good. Both teams (and individual players) have made a lot of improvement this year over last. McLean hasn’t announced the coaching lineup for next year yet but I think the White team coach at least should stay with this age group. Also, both groups of girls and parents generally are terrific - supportive and fun. Definitely reach out to both if you are interested.

We are a McLean family so I’m biased, but driving to South Arlington fields from Tyson’s for practices in the evenings is a real grind and something to consider. But just wanted to note that U15 is when a lot of girls quit (as they head to high school and decide to focus on high school and/or other sports), so there likely will be openings on the lower teams, presumably even at Arlington.

Agree with this. Not sure it's worth it unless you are on a higher level team. Where you are located both McLean and Vienna are good options - have had good and bad experiences with both - totally depends on the coach of the team.

You could also consider Alexandria soccer club, the girl side is not that competitive, currently 2010 have three teams.

Also, a bunch of girls from the top team are leaving (quitting or trying to move elsewhere) so there could be space in a few places.
