My pit mix is awesome

That is all.

I have an aversion to pits so imagine my chagrin when DNA proved my insanely awesome rescued border collie mix is a border bull, apparently a common backyard cross breed in the South (she's from Arkansas).

She has four other breeds mixed in from grandparents, but she's 30% APBT and 27.5% border collie.

So yeah, my pit mix is awesome, too.

Awesome until it bites someone.

I foster pregnant dogs and then look after the puppies until they're adopted. The best litter I had were pit mixes. They were intelligent and trainable. The worst was beagles - ALL OVER THE PLACE. These are anecdotes

Which is not to say that attack breeds should be encouraged in the general pet-owning population, because if these dogs ever do bite, their jaw strength has been bred to be incredibly strong, which means accidents are more likely to be fatal.

I'm just saying that when you take them early and train them right, the immense majority of dogs will never even think of biting a human.

Mine is also awesome.

What's even more awesome is the number of people who tell me to my face how horrible pits are while completely adoring and fawning over my dog. They are so clueless.

Until it eats your newborn.

I didn't know this! We have a 2yo pit mix rescued from Mississippi who is 50% Aussie Shepherd, 28% American Bully, 17.8% APBT, and 4.2% Bulldog and he is the love of my life. Such a cuddlebug and so darn smart.

Yup! No one believes my dog is a pit mix. He's a love bug with a long coat -- and loads of pit in him.

I have a friend who has an awesome pit bull. Then he adopted another one that mauled him. He's kept the original, but swears he'll never get another.

Yes, "most" dogs who are raised correctly would never think of biting a human. But "most" non-pit dogs are not nearly as lethal when they do.

Thank you op! There are many pit bulls who are wonderful but the media needs to sell news so the pit bulls are the new bad dogs even though it isthe human's fault.

I’ll never forget the story about the toddler killed by a pit bull in his own fenced yard, when the mom took the little boy out to play on the first nice day after they bought the house over the winter. Two pit bulls got through the fence and killed the boy while the mom tried to pull them off.

The mom and child did nothing wrong, but the little boy is dead and I’m sure the mom is traumatized. I genuinely do not understand the mindset of pit bull apologists.

I spent a little time volunteering at an animal rescue and the Pitts were often the most well trained, delightful and charming of dogs. You're right.
