Have you taken your kid off of Effexor (Venlaflaxine)?

We think it isn’t working and causing drowsiness and weight gain.

Have you taken your kid off of it and what was withdrawal like? Ours has been on it for about a year and a half. Stories of withdrawal are scary.

I was on Effexor for myself. We did the withdrawal slowly. My anxiety was quite bad. I needed my Xanax way more often. The worst was after I can off the last .25. I just felt really a mess. Very snappy and anxious. I ended up on a low dose of a different drug. Weight gain has been a problem for me with most anti-depressants , but I clearly need them. Trying Wegovy for the damn weight as I'm obese. i've been on and off meds since my 20s. I'm 50.

Thank you for sharing this. I’m really conflicted about whether to try this with my DD or not. I think the meds cause hormonal changes and also maybe carb cravings that cause the weight gain. As an aside, I have an anxiety disorder and was obese but was able to lose the weight (and deal with the anxiety) without weight loss drugs. If you’re interested I can share with you the program I found if you post a throw-away email.
