Ward 4&5 Current DPCS parents shut out of Latin/BASIS/ITS

Anonymous
Know there a lot of strong DCPS elementary schools in these wards but probably a lot of folks looking for charters for middle. If you were shut out of these charters, are you planning to give MacFarland, Wells, etc a shot? Or less buzzy charters? Move?

I don't think there's any hope of getting into Wells. MacFarland isn't that appealing unless you're into Spanish. ITS, Stuart-Hobson, and Truth will be on my list. As well as SWW@FS. For my younger DC, if needed, the new middle school on Euclid St.

SWW is very tough to get into as well.

Good luck to everyone!

Wells is the school of right for many in zone 4&5, so, for those who are zoned for it, are you considering it?

Capital City if that's the part of the city I were in, but I've heard really mixed things about it and PARCC numbers, especially math, look downright bad. But in a way it could be more desirable than Inspired since Cap City feeds to a HS and ITS doesn't. Thoughts?

Also if you're near Cap City, that's going to be a much better commute for you than ITS.

Only if you like the high school. Seems a high price to pay if you don't actually like it.

No.

I don’t know what we would have done if WFH hadn’t completely changed everything for us, but because it did we will move. Most likely Howard County, but will also look at Va.

Well, if you like the high school better than your in-boundary DCPS HS...

Doesn't matter if you would still not attend.

I wish I had added Stuart-Hobson feeders to my 5th grade list just to have the option.

Yes. Wells is actually my plan- not my back up.

SH isn’t a good school either, for what it’s worth.

Ward 4 DCPS parent here. MacFarland is our inbounds middle. Lotteried into Hardy feeder in mid/late elementary . The current principal at MacFarland was at Hardy for a few years and did great things. I am encouraged by his presence at MacFarland but the timing of that possibility is not synced up with our MS years (in MS now).
