Anonymous
Hi! Let's start a thread for who is running for school board, city council, and mayoral candidates in Alexandria. What are their positions and have they supported teachers and students?

City Council:
Sarah Bagley
Kirk McPike
Canek Aguirre
Jesse O'Connell
James Lewis
Charlotte Scherer
John Taylor Chapman
Kevin Harris
Jonathan Huskey
Jacinta Greene
Abdel El-Noubi

A few of them from the school board running for CC don't have any children like
Jacinta Greene.

Oh this is Alexandria. Not Arlington. Darn.

Not a fan of any of these choices. I got one foot out the door already anyway moving soon since this city has turned into a nightmare.

No policy difference between this list, the last list, the list before that...

But Alexandrians don't want change in the city or in the schools. That is evident from their voting habits.

I'd like to see some accountability for Ashley Baird. Her original campaign website was full of ideas and change that she said she'd advocate for in ACPS. After the election, her website was scrubbed to be a cheerleading site for ACPS and, when he was superintendent, Greg Hutchings. She said teachers were lying when a few brave ones spoke out. Her big concern over weapons detection was if the system would be atheistically pleasing.

I doubt her main constituency of private school parents cares or even knows. No need to ask and make things awkward at their cocktail parties.

Who is running for school board for the vacant spots? Who is running in district B? A has Jacinta Greene leaving and C has Abdel El-Noubi leaving to run for city council. Neither one of them did well in the ADC straw poll. With the debacle over the school budget, I want school board members who can manage the superintendent.

Do any of the mayoral candidates or city council members have education as a priority? Tell me about the third candidate running for mayor, Steven Patterson? He is running against Amy Jackson and Alyia Gaskins.

Where are Amy Jackson and Alyia Gaskins employed? This is not a full-time job.

Don't worry yourself with elections in Alexandria. I don't. The electorate doesn't want change. What you saw in the ADC straw poll will be the elections results.

It doesn't matter who runs for school board. Things will stay the same or get worse with ACPS. The school board and central office keep finding the bottom. And that's what voters want.

I too am curious about who b is running for school board.

As for Mayor, Amy Jackson had a background in training and education.

I'm also not impressed those running for city council.

Amy Jackson won't be mayor. Gaskins has been chosen by the Alexandria establishment. It's over. I'm not sure why they are even bothering with an election.

Gaskins has received $50,000 in campaign funds from just one couple. What's that about?

A young ACPS alum named Alexander Scioscia is the only District B School Board candidate this far. Tammy Ignacio is not running again- I guess she finally ran out of mileage on the “The Latinas will support me because of my name” grift, or she’s managed to scam her way back into ACHS.

Nothing wrong with it, I don't think there are limits in VA. Why does anyone give any candidate a large contribution? Either they want something or they believe in the candidate.

Of the field she's the best option in a lot of ways (from a certain point of view).

Amy has put her time in and deserves to be mayor, Gaskins comes in out of no where is on CC a hot minute and some how is experienced enough with this city (she's pretty new here) to be mayor. Yeah, ok.

Seems like she's being "placed" into this roll to me. Just like Justin is being "placed" into his new job.

You are not wrong. She is the "chosen" one.
