Arlington/Falls Church/Alexandria Private School Option

Anonymous
I know this is broad, but we are hoping to move in the next year and would like more space and a stellar, yet affordable private school.

We are protestant, but both have attended Catholic schools and do not have any issues with Catholic education. We are looking for a well rounded education that focuses on core subjects. We do like having religion incorporated if possible.

My current search has lead me to:
Blessed Sacrament-Alexandria
Lutheran Emanuel-Alexandria
St. Rita-Alexandria
Congressional-Falls Church
Potomac Classical Conservatory-Alexandria
St. Agnes-Arlington

Would also love to know your experience of being admitted as a non-catholic into a catholic school.
Where else should I be looking?

Appreciate any helpful tips or advice!

Congressional was fantastic for our child but as the only non-religious school on your list and your stated preference for a religious component, seems like the odd one out for you.

This is OP, I am not opposed to non relgious.
Just curious if the school overall had woke vibes?

Ugh, just go to Potomac Classical.

Yes, Congressional skews liberal. The child of Trumper parents in my kid’s grade who spewed their rhetoric in classes was routinely argued down by his classmates and even teachers.

Certainly there are families more conservative than others, but if you use the term “woke” in all seriousness, just go somewhere else.

Odd that you don't have SSSAS or Grace Episcopal on your list.

Not OP and I don’t know about Grace, but SSSAS is probably a higher price point than the schools on that list, so that might be why.

Maybe look at Emmanuel Christian School in Springfield

I was going to suggest Trinity in Falls Church but it starts at 7th. Keep it in mind if you end up at a school that ends before MS or US, though.

Rivendell?

We have friends at Immanuel Lutheran School who've been very happy. Is that what you meant by Lutheran Emmanuel?

Also know another Alexandria family at Calvary Road Christian in Springfield who really love the language arts and math curricula.

TSMV (the Trinity in Falls Church referenced above) has a great reputation at our church for academics.

Look at St James in FCC.

You HAVE to expand your vocabulary. No one even knows what this means anymore. And it makes you sound dumb. Just use other words.

SSSAS gives solid financial aid, so depending on income that could be worth consideration.

OP, it could be challenging to get into the Alexandria Catholic schools as a non-Catholic. We've been active members at our Catholic parish in Alexandria for years and were still waitlisted for K. We eventually got it, but we'd already signed a contract elsewhere by then.

Emmanuel Lutheran in Alexandria on Russell has had some significant admin and faculty changes that have caused many teachers to leave and I would seriously look into this before considering.

I live close to it and several of my friends either had (in the past) or currently have kids there. What they directly told me is that the board of the school was basically taken over by very conservative church members who forced out the very well liked principal and in her place put in a church member that was zero educational admin experience. The former principal set up her own school and a bunch of teachers jumped ship to teach at that new school bc they loved the former principal as their boss. And then because of that a large number of families unenrolled their kids from Emmanuel and sent them to the new school. This all happened last summer so it is recent. The school is considering a lawsuit for unpaid tuition from the families. It is a huge mess over there.
