Has anyone whose son has attended the UVA residential camp have any feedback good or bad? What did your son like/dislike about it? I'd like to send my 13 year old to it, just for the experience, but wondering what others' experiences have been. Thanks in advance! |
There is a previous Summer Camps thread where about 4 posters chimed in and said it was OK, not high end. No real issues, just basic soccer camp stuff. It's beneficial for team bonding. There but there may not be any real experienced coaches running the camp. |
Agree with above poster. Not going to improve their skills but my kid loves it. Fun kids, fun coaches, likes staying in the dorms, etc.

My 13 year old really liked the UVA camp in terms of the social aspects, the dorm (it was like a small apartment - better space than the UMD camp), but the quality of the soccer was lower than UMD camp. |
thank you! just looking for fun experience for sure - not expecting amazing soccer. |
My son loved it when he attended. Housing is good, coaches were pleasant. For a fun week of camp with some friends, its a good option. The level is decent too, or was when he attended. |
This is accurate. |
Ya it's good. My son went the summer before COVID which shut it down for a couple years. He is 16 now, but still says it's the best camp he's gone to. Their meals were at the basketball arena which he thought was really cool. |
Good if you are going with friends and teammates (which our son did, and he loved it). I think not as good for kids who don't know as many other players.
Don't expect noticeable improvement from a week of sleepaway camp, so it's hard to say it's "worth it," but it seemed like a fun experience. |
Heard great things about the experience. The only camp DD feels has really been useful is the SJC one. |
Thank you for the feedback, all! |
What is the SJC camp? |
