How is Longfellow Algebra 1 HN for 7th grade this year? Old posts have this being harder than the 8th grade class. Is that still the case? |
My second DC had both 7h and 8th graders in their Algebra 1 Honors class. They were in 7th. I don’t know about my first DC, who took it in 8th. I don’t remember that one was easier or harder than the other. |
It's harder because the students are a year younger. |
It’s harder but that’s okay, let them push themselves and break a sweat. |
It is not harder because the kids are younger, it is a harder class. At least a few years ago, when my junior took it. I talked to the teacher because my kid was struggling and he told me that they had designed the class for the really super advanced kids and that he thought they were admitting too easily (FWIW, my kid got like a 96 or 97 on the IOWA, had never gotten under a 4 in advanced math, always pass advanced for SOL and he was not prepared). I also realized that a lot of the kids had taken algebra over the summer. In any case, I don't think the legendary teacher is at Longfellow anymore so it may have all changed. |
Majority of Longfellow 7th graders might breeze through Algebra 1 Honors. Equity concerns arise when students advance too quickly in math, leaving others middle school kids behind. Longfellow students, please consider sticking to the basic math path. |
