It seems like this current cycle was the most competitive ever.
Per the Board of Trustee's Meeting: Applications: 74,300 Average Recalculated GPA (uses only core classes): 4.57 Average Test Scores: SAT: 1420.68 and ACT: 31.28 https://mediasite.video.ufl.edu/Mediasite/Channel/uf-board-of-trustees-march-2024/watch/619d45dabb6e447f86c466cfef1a43ac1d ***Watch at the 1:44 mark. |
Those test scores are lower than I would have thought. I also read UCLA had 173k applications, I’d have thought UF would get more as much as it’s discussed here. |
Yup, just another example of how much grade inflation there is when you compare the high average gpa with a relatively low average SAT. |
Isn't UCLA Test Blind? University of Florida has always been test required even through Covid (and yet, their application numbers keep growing and their SAT/ACT and GPA averages keep getting higher every year). |
DS rejected w 4.8, 33 as, lots of EC's. MCPS Luckily into UGA which he preferred and waiting on others |
The average SAT score is higher than I expected given that it is not TO. |
What counts is averaged of enrolled students. It will be substantially less. |
That is a high test score given it is a state flagship and test required. UF is aware of grade inflation that is why they recalculate grades based on their own criteria.
UCLA is a great school but test-blind. So it is an apples and oranges comparison. |
1420 is not low average. The average is around 1030 according to CollgeBoard. |
Just another example of someone who cannot stand to see UF succeeding. |
Exactly! Bringing up UCLA makes no sense. |
The UF recalculation is inflated. They weight honors classes +.5 and give +1 weight for any AP classes, while other schools consider AP CS, Research/Seminar as electives. From their website: Dual-enrollment courses in academic core areas and any AP, IB or AICE classes receive an extra 1.0 credit weight, meaning that an A is worth a 5.0 on a 4.0 scale. |
It’s a low average for that GPA. No idea what they do to get those numbers but an UW 4.0 normally would reflect a 34 ACT or over 1500 SAT. |
It’s a recalculated weighted GPA, not unweighted. You personally might dislike weighting, but UF evidently believes it is useful. |
+1 Anyone thinking 1420 is low has lived in the DC bubble too long. |
