I get that the equipment was a big investment, but why the ongoing high cost? $40+ for a 16-person group class just seems so high. (And currently beyond my budget, which is why I feel annoyed!) |
Isn't that how much all in person classes are? About $40? |
The equipment is expensive and classes are small. How is this a question? |
Not that expensive. A really great Cadillac one is 3k used. If I were to get into it again I'd do that: not more expensive than twice a week sessions for a year. |
Not really. I pay $50 a month for my total gym membership. Yoga and Pilates included, but they do not have reformers. - not OP |
I wonder this as well. I am a member at Lifetime Clarendon, where the dues are now $280/month, and everything is included except the pilates reformer classes. Why? |
It’s the very small classes |
I pay $150/month for 8 classes. It's use them or lose them (I don't always make 8). I think it's very reasonable. This is at RTR Pilates. |
The high price makes you feel like you are purchasing something amazing and that becomes self-reinforcing. |
230 monthly club pilates, you have to book weeks ahead to get in a class, its getting harder and harder, currently doing 4 classes weekly |
I get a package of 4 per month. Comes out to $27/class. It's expensive, but doing it in combination with weightlifting a few times per week has cured my chronic back pain.
I'm willing to pay a bit for a guided class that used a big piece of equipment that I have no desire to have in my own house. |
Comprehensive training to be an instructor is like 500-600 hours and costs about $5000.00.
So the instructor needs to be compensated fairly. The equipment is very expensive, especially commercial grade, not an Aero Pilates reformer from Sam’s. They take up a lot of space, so that gets factored in to the cost of the class as well. The separate probably fee helps ensure that the classes are full, people don’t sign up and not show. Still a lot less expensive than a private session. |
Completely different workout. Mat pilates is not even close to the same as reformer. |
Mat pilates are a waste of time. |
Mat pilates, when done correctly, can actually be as hard or harder than working on a reformer, where in some ways you benefit from the support. Main difference is in the cost of the equipment and class size. You can have more ppl in a mat class than in a reformer class, yet either way the instructor needs to get paid. |
