Hello,
1. I am curious if a high school student takes a DE class, one that is approved already, over the summer between 11th and 12th grade does that get calculated into their GPA? 2. Also, if a child took, let’s say AP physics C, in 11th grade and did not get a high grade, could they take a physics DE class this summer and have that replace the AP physics C? likely not I am assuming but I would think that if they got a high grade in the DE physics that would look better on their transcript for college, do you agree or not? |

1. Yes, the grades will be added to their Student Grades & Graduation Credit Report at the beginning of 12th grade and factored into their GPA.
2. No, you have to take the exact same class for a grade replacement. For example, if your kid took AP Chem double period and retook AP Chem single period, it wouldn't count as a grade replacement on the transcript or GPA. However, the class would be added to the transcript so colleges would see that they took the class. However, that doesn't mean that colleges will think the DE course is better than the AP course. |
| Anyway one can take a double period AP chem class through MCPS over the summer? Genuinely want to find one. For grade replacement |
PP here: MCPS doesn't offer AP classes in person during the summer. However, your child can take the class online with one of their approved vendors for grade replacement: https://www.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/departments/onlinelearning/courses/ap/ Note that it seems like AP Chem double period isn't offered. The tuition cost varies from $350-700. |
