We have been trying to find a textbook that covers ELA topics following the common core, but it's been hard to find. We have separate grammar books, but we need some reference materials to coach our 5th grader in elements of literature/writing, root words etc. Would be grateful for any book/website recommendation. |
Khan Academy now offers some ELA for grades K-9. It's free, so it's worth a look.

Typical textbooks are terrible. The Well Trained Mind by Susan Wise Bauer has great recommendations for ELA. |
I wouldn't worry about it unless you're going to a private or magnet school. But you can look at the cirriculum the elementary schools use and check that out to be sure your kid has the basics. |
OP here - thanks for the recommendations. These are helpful! |

Kumon does a pretty good job with this, and their approach is very systematic and thorough so there should be no knowledge gaps. |
