Just looking for personal experiences. Thanks in advance |
What sport is this? |
We went for a week for tennis. There are some amazing players there. I’m not sure if the coaching was anything special for the camps but my kids got to see some real talent. Those are the kids who board and play tennis full time. My kids are good but not that good. |
Track and field? |
Tennis |
How good the kid |
Lots of experience. Football. DS got admitted but didn't go. Over $100k per year all in - not including books - and if you aren't 100% DC will be an athlete, risk too big. |
I know of IMG only from what others have mentioned…it’s a common 5th year senior option.
I do wonder if it’s like college recruiting camps…do they need a certain %age of good but not great kids paying the full freight in order to subsidize the pro bound players that expect full scholarship? My understanding for basketball, is they have multiple teams…one team of kids that are high probability NBA, another team that are high probability D1, another high academic D1 or D3 (that group is all full pay BTW)…maybe more? |
Yes, Nick Bollettieri freely admitted that is their model. |
This is my understanding. They’ll accept any good player who is full pay in order to subsidize the truly talented kids to whom they offer scholarships. |
Add in risk of injury if going full pay. |
This is not true |
Correct - there was a full-on recruitment process for my DS for football and they were only going to take a fixed number for different positions. Especially tuning down QB's. Some really good ones just weren't going to get any reps. |
Is there more than 1 football team…they field multiple teams in a bunch of other sports at different ability levels. |
My kid attended an IMG camp and was offered a spot. We would be full pay. The way it was worded to us was that there are top players who aren’t the best students. My kid is a top student. It seemed like they could get my kid to a level to be recruited at a top college given my child’s academic stats. We passed more because we want our kid home with us. We don’t expect him to be a college recruit. |
