| I'm on my second round of covid (last one was in 2022) and after being pretty sick for about 5 days I'm now 2 weeks post positive test/first day of symptoms. I'm mostly recovered except for a lingering cough and a deep deep feeling of exhaustion. I seem to remember being tired for awhile after having covid last time but this seems worse somehow. Is there anything I can take for this?? I'm honestly having a hard time functioning. |
| It’s kind of normal. It could also be long Covid. I was only moderately sick from Covid but felt the fatigue for about 6 months. |
| You have covid. You are 14 days in. Remember how we were supposed to stay home for 14 days at first? That's because it's pretty normal for covid to last that long. The five day thing is BS. |
It’s bs that I personally felt ill for 5 days and then felt mostly recovered except lingering fatigue and cough? Oookkk. |
There's a difference between being contagious and post-viral syndrome (of which fatigue is a symptom). Some supplements may help you OP: vitamin D, Zinc, fish oil. |
| I had covid earlier this year, and it took a good 3 weeks for the cough and fatigue to go away. |
| Good luck. I had long Covid, which, for me was a cough that didn’t stop and exhaustion, for over a year after I had Covid. |
| I’ve had Covid twice, once in spring 2020 and again in spring 2023. The first infection was so mild that I was in denial that I was sick. I kept exercising and kept a full workload. Still, I needed two-three naps per day for over two weeks. During my second infection, the symptoms were stronger and more numerous. I still had the same experience of needing to nap at least twice a day for nearly three weeks. |
+1 It's normal to be exhausted from covid. For many people, covid is much more than "just a cold". Sleep as much as you can, your body is telling you it needs 8+ hours of sleep each night. I would also avoid exercising until the fatigue goes away. It will likely only make it worse. Just had covid for first time, and the exhaustion lasted 3 weeks before I started feeling more normal. But I gave my body time to heal and slept 8-10 hours even the 2 weeks after I tested negative and was "feeling somewhat better", as my doctor told me that is key to recovery |
It's BS that 5 days is enough for a "full recovery". The original 14 day to recover hasn't really changed and is still fairly accurate. Covid lingers in your body, so even if you are feeling better and even if you are no longer contagious (you can test to know that), your body may still have fatigue and lingering cough. |
| When I had Covid over the summer I was exhausted for about a month and a half. |
Add to that Melatonin 5-10mg to help ensure you sleep well, Quercetin 400mg 3x/day, Liposomal Vitamin C. My functional med doctor gave me a list of 10+ supplements (all of those were on it plus more) and told me to take at least 5 of them during covid to help boost my immune system. It certainly can't hurt. Most likely helped. Also likely helped that 2 weeks after I tested positive, my partner got FLU A. So doctor told me to continue those supplements as well as 3 days of 50K of Vitamin D/K2 then back to 10,000. I avoided the flu. So now whenever I know I've been exposed to some illness, I will use the protocol to immediately bump my immune system. |
| I’m going through this too OP. Started symptoms last Monday, was through the worst of the actual symptoms by Friday night/Saturday morning, now I just have a bit of lingering nasal congestion and a slight dry cough, and a terrible sore throat from how much I coughed when I was sick, but the fatigue is really getting to me. Doesn’t help that I’m not sleeping as well due to the fact that my cough kicks up more at night. Hopefully we both feel 100% soon! |

I woke up feeling like crud February 2 called out from work, was very sick by that Sunday and ended up missing the whole next week and the following Monday too - whatever virus I had morphed into a bacterial infection and I needed a Zpak to knock it down. Tuesday last week was a snow day so I didn’t have to work; I went back to work last Wednesday, felt okay for a couple of days, by Friday night my joints were all screaming pain - spoke to the doctors office nurse today and she says sounds like viral arthritis which I had never heard of OMG does it hurt!!!!! I’m a migraineur so I have a pretty high pain tolerance but this joint pain is intense and meloxicam is barely taking the edge off - plus the pain is waking me up several times each night, so besides the post viral fatigue, I’m even more exhausted from lack of sleep.
My feet, my knees, my hips/lower back, my hands, my elbows, my shoulders - all screaming pain. I can barely get up from a seated position, I cannot do stairs and I’m having trouble walking as well. Viruses are nothing to sneeze at. |
You’re still sick. You are only fourteen days in. It’s too early to be long COVID. Yes, COVID often makes people feel crappy. For weeks. That is why you feel sick and tired. |
