Spring Travel Tryouts - Dates

Spouse told me Vienna Youth Soccer is holding tryouts in March. That seems early when a couple years ago all tryouts were in May. Is the trend each year to hold tryouts earlier and earlier. Anyone know when other club tryouts are?

Crazy if March. All tryouts should be pushed back to no earlier then June. Players/coaches would remain accountable for fully completing their responsibilities until the Spring season is over. From June to start of August is plenty of time to get all logistics taken care of from tryouts to registrations, etc.

Fully agree. With how this has been setup, families pay for 10 month commitments sometimes but with clubs doing tryouts beginning March 1st it's all about next year beginning as early as January in some places. Coaching shuffles and tryouts break up continuity, create rumors and also affects coaches on teams that are moving to other local clubs. So more often than not, families that do commit to these clubs feel more like their return on the commitment sometimes only feels like 5-6 months.

OP, suggest you follow the clubs you're interested in/closest to on social media. They are all posting tryout dates there.

OP here: It is March. He spoke with the VYS travel director Monday. We think March is insane. Our kid will be just starting the spring travel season with his current team! Wanted to see if others know of other club tryout dates.

Alexandria is having an MLS Next ID session on Thursday 2/22. I doubt it's a tryout per se but helps identify kids who might be interested in trialing with the club during spring practices. You can't do that with a post-season tryout. It definitely wouldn't be the last chance to join the club for the 2024-25 season but is a good way to start the process.

OP here: It is March. He spoke with the VYS travel director Monday. We think March is insane. Our kid will be just starting the spring travel season with his current team! Wanted to see if others know of other club tryout dates.

That's insane that kids will know if they are being demoted, promoted, or just leaving the club that early into the season. It can't be great for team chemistry

Are you sure this isn’t just tryouts for the summer Super Y team. I believe that is coming up in March.

In NoVA specifically, tryout season is Feb-Early April depending on the club/league for the following year. Super Y/USL Y tryouts begin in January for some clubs up here.

Agreed, that's pretty sad. Even if it's late March kids will know by week 1-2 of April and they still have two months of games.
