Samuel Tucker Elementary School in Alexandria

Does anyone have experience with this school? We are zoned for this school and I'd like to know any experiences, positive or negative. Also I understand there is an overcrowding issue and some kids might have to go to other schools. Our DS is 4 so we are trying decide if we should stay put for Kindergarten or move to a different school district altogether (Fairfax or Arlington).

I think Tucker is a fairly decent school. It is year round though, so only 5-6 weeks off in the summer. Whether or not overcrowding is an issue won't really be clear until registration and it will vary every year, so hard to know. Check under "modified open enrollment" on the ACPS website. As far as I can't remember, the overflow schools for Tucker weren't great.

If you are planning to move to Arlington or Fairfax anyway, I'd seriously consider that option. Schools are better than Alexandria in both areas. If we had the money to get out of Alexandria, I'd be gone tomorrow.
