| My DD just heard from Pitt. Any idea when her scholarship/aid package will come? How long to wait. Thanks! |
| DS was accepted in September and received $5K/year in a letter in December. |
| Tippy Top! |
Do you mean need-based financial aid? I’m not sure schools have even received the FAFSA forms yet. Most merit aid (they don’t give out much anymore) has been given out. She needed to have applied by Dec 1 to be eligible. |
Wouldn't you expect some merit aid to be freed up when the DCUM kids start making their final decisions?
The full-ride Chancellor's Scholarship process begins with interview invitations in February according to the website. The runners-up likely get some money. That used to be true. |
| DD applied before Dec 1 but just heard. The letter said money offer comes later? |
| (She applied JUST before Dec 1- Nov 30 at 11:30 pm) |
50 students are invited to interview for the full ride. Only 15 get it. What “used to be true” for Pitt merit is no longer, and 2 year old advice (to say nothing of older advice) is now stale. OP, sounds like your daughter hit the deadline to technically be considered for merit. Just fyi, most merit was given out earlier. Even then, less than 20% of students got any merit last year, and it’s likely even less this year. |

DS got into Pitt about 3 weeks after applying (Sometime in November), School of Computing. Tuition and Fees are about $45K and they raised it by 6% or some such this year. Expect that trend to continue. We don't expect any merit aid at this point.
Since then has gotten into a bunch of others (Penn State, Delaware, Ohio State, etc.), some with merit, so Pitt is dropping off our list. |
| Thanks for all this info. |
| DD applied early on to Pitt and was admitted. A few weeks ago she heard about merit aid — $15/year for a total of $60k. Alas she is not going to Pitt. The merit aid seemed decent though? |
Definitely refuting all the knowitalls who say “Pitt doesn’t give merit any more”. |
That's great for Pitt! I bet your DD has a fantastic academic profile that got her into a much higher tier school. |
I am curious about your DD's academic profile. My kid received $5k a year for Dietrich, 34 ACT superscore and 4.2 weighted/3.8 unweighted. Wondering if this award is in line with others who are similar. She applied early November. |
You can look at data in the common data sets and see they give less non-need aid now than long ago. I mean, if you like facts. |
