I personally consider a Georgetown BA and also a JD at the law center to be fairly prestigious credentials. But I don’t know anything about the GU MBA. How it is perceived locally and also in other major cities for those planning to relocate? |
There are probably rankings you could google. |
It's a lower T25. |
I would call it "solid." |
It’s fine. |
it’s ok |
As above. It has a solid/fine reputation. Not top 10 but there is respectable name recognition.
My Georgetown McDonough school MBA is a bit riffraff compared to my management consultant colleagues that came from Bain/McKinsey/BCG, but it is an adequate signal to get the job done. |
In and of itself, no
It’s really best for working professionals in dc who need to check a box to move up in their org |
US News ranks Georgetown's MBA program at #24 in a tie with Rice University's Jones MBA program and higher than Vanderbilt and Notre Dame.
US News ranks about 496 MBA programs so #24 Georgetown is among the top 5% of all US MBA programs. Virginia-Darden--an outstanding MBA program--is ranked at #14. UNC is ranked #22. Attending an M-7 (Top 7) MBA program or a Top 10 MBA program is most important for those individuals seeking to switch employers and/or industries. MBA programs are expensive regarding COA and opportunity cost (such as lost income). |
The M-7 group of MBA programs are the most prestigious (Harvard, Penn-Wharton, Stanford, Chicago-Booth, Northwestern-Kellogg, MIT-Sloan, & Columbia Business School). Next most prestigious are Dartmouth-Tuck, NYU-Stern, Michigan-Ross, UC-Berkeley, Virginia-Darden, & Duke-Fuqua. Yale SOM is getting attention as well.
The current 2023-2024 US News Best MBA Program rankings are: 1) Chicago-Booth 2) Northwestern-Kellogg 3) U Penn-Wharton 4) MIT-Sloan 5) Harvard 6) Dartmouth-Tuck 6) Stanford-GSB 8) Michigan-Ross 8) Yale-SOM 10) NYU-Stern 11) Columbia Business School 11) UCal-Berkeley 11) Duke-Fuqua 14) Virginia-Darden 15) Cornell-Johnson 15) USC 17) Emory 18) CMU-Tepper 19) UCLA 20) U Texas at Austin 20) U Washington-Foster 22) Indiana-Kelley 22) UNC 24) Georgetown-McDonough 24) Rice-Jones 26) Georgia Tech 27) U Texas at Dallas 27) U Rochester-Simon 27) Vanderbilt-Owen 30) Notre Dame 31) U Georgia-Terry 31) U Minnesota 33) Michigan State U 33) SMU-Cox 35) ASU-Carey 35) BYU 37) Penn State 37) WashUStL-Olin 37) UC-Irvine 40) U Florida 40) U Wisconsin 42) U Maryland 45) William & Mary Even though US News currently ranks Chicago & Northwestern as the top 2 MBA programs, most consider Harvard, Stanford, & Penn-Wharton to be the top 3 MBA programs with Chicago & Northwestern rounding out the top 5 MBA programs. |
A lot of feds, military and DC-based consultants pursue advanced degrees for free. Georgetown is the best MBA in the region, so that’s where many go. |
Is it even difficult to get into? I’ve never heard anywhere say they got rejected from GU’s MBA program or were ever worried about the possibility of being rejected. |
FWIW, I have problems with the USNWR MBA ranking for 2023-2024. My top 10 take: 1) U Penn-Wharton, Harvard, Stanford [different strengths and approaches but the best of the best] 4) MIT-Sloan 5) Chicago-Booth 6) Northwestern-Kellogg 7) Columbia, Yale-SOM 9) NYU-Stern, Michigan-Ross |
No, I would not consider it prestigious. It's a second-tier school. |
Right - that was my point |
