Backyard makeover (Yardzen?)

Anonymous
We are wanting (eventually when we have enough money saved) to have a renovation of our backyard (patio, lighting, fireplace, etc.) to provide more entertainment space. We already have a screened in porch and lots of nice flowers and plants from the previous owners. Have you tried Yardzen or had any luck with other local landscaping services? I’ve very intrigued by Yardzen’s advertising but am curious if they are any good.

We used Tilly, which is similar to YardZen, for our front yard. I don't know if it was worth it - there was a lot of upfront measurement work, and a number of their suggestions did not make sense in real life, or were not practical for the space (i.e. shade loving plants in full sun, about 2x the number of plants that could actually fit in the space). We ended up hiring a landscaping company anyway to execute on it, and they made a number of changes to the design to make it actually work for our space.

NP - we used Tilly and really liked it. We used a local nursery to implement the design.

22:06 again. Should add that we didn't need to do a lot of measurement work but we did FaceTime with the designer and sent the plat / survey of our property.

I used Yardzen a few years ago for a plan for my house. It was good in some ways, but not super helpful in others. I had just moved into the house so I didn't really know which areas of the yard got full sunlight vs partial, so a lot of my plant recommendations were totally out of whack. If I'd provided better feedback on the initial design to help them take into account sunlight, it would have been more helpful.

Yardzen might work for some, but I found the process disappointing. Despite giving them detailed input and a healthy budget, the final design felt generic and didn’t reflect what I asked for. Just sharing in case it helps someone else decide.

A friend just shared what ChatGPT put together and it looked pretty awesome as a starting point.

I was going to say, I used ChatGPT to make recommendations and plan the design. Haven't implemented it yet, but it looks pretty good and makes a lot of sense. And, it was free. Does the exact same thing Yardzen does. There are other free AI garden planners as well--though you don't get the plant recs unless you upgrade to Pro.

How did you use chat gpt for the design? Upload a photo and ask for x,y,z design? Did it spit out a new photo? Thanks!
