Republicans and the debt ceiling

McCarthy has almost no majority. There will be CRs this year; no way the house actually passes funding bills

That is one way to reduce the deficit. Keep passing CRs that are smaller in size, a month at a time.

Like Trump and other millionaires.

The top 50 percent of all taxpayers paid 97.7 percent of all federal individual income taxes, while the bottom 50 percent paid the remaining 2.3 percent. - the Tax Foundation

Flatten the tax code.

Well ya when the rich are filthy rich, especially in comparison with those of lower incomes, of course they're going to pay way more in taxes than people making a fraction of what they do. Duh. Maybe what you're looking for is a flattening of salaries at the top so there isn't such gross imbalance in our society.

HALF the country skating on taxes is BS.

They are still paying payroll taxes (SS, Medicare) and sales taxes. And property taxes.

The statement about 50% of people only paying 2.3 percent of taxes, is misleading to those who don't read carefully.

The person specifically cited federal income taxes with the 97 %. What the hell
Is wrong with you?

HALF the country not making enough money to be taxed is BS. Income inequality is insane. Raise the minimum wage. Stop paying CEOs such obscene amounts.

Also anyone who buys things in the US is paying taxes. That's a flat tax that hurts the poor.

It's threatening the leftist's slice of the pie. They want everyone to support them, to which I say: a collapse is best.

They are not paying income taxes.

They a skating and voting like it too (vote for the most free s*** because you don't have to pay for it). ENOUGH!

Flatten the tax code.

Tell us, o wise one, how much money those people are making without having to pay income taxes. Real numbers with sources. Go ahead. Let's see if you can dig up some facts. And then let's all digest the incomes so many Americans are struggling to live off.

Also tell us the "free s***" that you think people are getting. Do you mean schools? And firemen? Social services? Infrastructure? Just what kind of freebies are those folks getting? List them.

Life must be tough for you.

You have NO idea the impact if what you are suggesting.

8 million out of work
Skyrocketing interest rates
Tankage in the stock and bond markets
much less the primary damage to vets, people on social security, medicare etc.

Sure. None of that will happen because it is just an arbitrary date and line drawn in the sand. The US will pay its debt. Everyone knows it. The US is not going anywhere.

“I did my research”

It’s actually fairly easy to digest the data from the treasury. There is a small chance the X date could be pushed to the summer given the upcoming tax revenue but it’s quite small.

Go take your chances. This will impact, at least in the short term, every American one way or another.

Unless you are poor and live off the lane in the woods, then you should worry about the damage the extremes of both parties are causing

Looks like the democrats caved - shocking.

When you include local, state, and payroll taxes, we do have a flat tax. Yes, really. Analyses show this. You’re too myopic/ideological. See the bigger picture.

If this is the deal, it’s a big win for Biden:

McCarthy isn’t going to survive this.

Like federal income tax is the only kind of tax anyone pays or could pay. Tax the shit out of estates over $50 million.

Nope. That sends the message to offshore. Last thing we need in a global economy.

Flatten the tax code.

Haha. No.

The fixation on one kind of tax is either weird or dishonest. Maybe both.

Biden should cave on everything but only if McCarthy drinks a Bud Light out of a rainbow can.

No, that’s too easy. McCarthy needs to butt-chug a Bud Light rainbow can being poured into the funnel by Dylan Mulvaney.

If this reporting is accurate, it is a huge win for the Dems.
