I’ve read many posts about the low quality of HS varsity soccer. But I don’t know if it was Boys or Girls varsity. I didn’t have a chance to take my rising 9th grader DD to any HS games this season.
How is MCPS HS girls varsity soccer? Is it mostly big/strong girls, low technical skills/possession and kick n run as I read in a few posts? |
Depends on the high school and where the players play (if you have ECNL players they are the better teams). Blair, Whitman, WJ, Churchill, QO, Northwest and BCC are all good. the rest are a mixed bag. The girls that play love it. |
Play for the love, no other reason. If you play for anything else you tend to get hurt and/or pick up bad habits. How bad does you DC want to play in HS? At this point you should know that there is no college recruitment benefit to HS soccer, so its really about all the other intangigbles of competing for something other than yourself, school pride, playing with peers, being a HS kid for a couple of months before the club grind starts churning again. I'd say do it, but it really depends on your DC |
| Thank you for the responses. My DD plays on a VA club team. Hence, there will be schedule conflicts with games and practices. Hence, this is a dilemma for her. |
Ohhh. Probably not a good idea, especially if she's able to make friends independent of soccer. I've also seen kids play their freshman year to build their social network and then stop their sophomore year to have more time for club. Most high schools have practice or games everyone. If you were in an MD club, it'd be feasible because coaches scale back practices in the fall and are understanding. However, with the conflicting schedule, I'm not sure how that'd work... |
There are girls that do play in va and do club soccer. You should talk to the coach before making a decision. |
