How much for an artificial Christmas Tree and how much to spend?

We bought a $75 artificial tree from Target about 8 years ago. I think it still looks pretty good, it's served us well, and there's no need to replace it.
However, this is our first Christmas in our new home and I was thinking of surprising my family with a new tree. I'm not interested in prelit trees but would appreciate any recommendations. How much do you recommend spending on a new tree and what are some of the best brands? What makes a fake tree a good one? This is one of those purchases where I'm willing to spend more if it's worth it, but it's hard for me to conceptualize how a $300 tree is significantly better than a $100 tree from Target. |

| Why no prelit trees? Do you plan to put lights on it at all? The cheap trees usually look pretty cheap. |

I actually enjoy the process of placing the lights on the tree. It's cheesy but that's when we actually gather with Christmas music and hot chocolate. We can also switch between colored lights and white lights depending on how we feel |

We dropped $400 at Home Depot for a 7.5 prelit tree last week. Easy to put up, looks good.

| I love our prelit tree because it can switch between colored, white, or pastel (meh) lights via the remote, so I can have a more sedate tree after the kids go to bed. I think what differentiates them the most is the number of realistic/3D tips vs flat greenery tips, if that makes sense. And maybe the number of lights. The Balsam Hill ones looked lovely but we are very space constrained and those were all too wide. We ended up getting ours at Home Depot because I wanted to be able to return it in store. You can typically get the Home Depot pre-lit special for $99-$150 around Black Friday. Lights will do various combinations of white and colored LED.
If you actually LIKE hanging the lights, keep what you have. Get a new ornament set to spruce things up. |

| The bigger the tree the bigger the pain with lights. For a bigger tree it’ll take a while to decorate so go with pre lit. Number of tips - the more the more realistic. |

the elegant grand fir at home depot (pre lit) is a great tree.
depending on how much stuff you put on it, the tree might not matter much. i like a tree with a LOT of lights, but we went prelit years ago and i am thrilled. |

| I have a fake tree for my bedroom. I got a cheaper one. Under $100 for a 6’ - it’s clearly fake. No fooling anyone, but still looks pretty at night with twinkly lights and ornaments. |

| When we moved (built our house) we splurged on a Balsam Hill tree. Spent $1,250 on it. I absolutely LOVE it! It's on wheels, flips over, ridiculously easy to setup/take down and doesn't need a crazy amount of "fluffing". I mean the thing actually came with fluffing gloves. Is it over the top? 100%. But we had some extra money from the sale of our home and wanted a fun little splurge. It'll last quite a while. |
