Do NOT use this facility for your 3D/4D Sonogram

Anonymous
I recently had a 3D/4D elective sonogram at Motherhood Sonogram (dba - Vital Signs Imaging). The website is http://www.motherhoodsonogram.com/.

Unfortunately they were not able to get images of my baby's face due to the position of the baby. I was very disappointed with the final images which essentially showed the baby's hands blocking the face. When I explained my disappointment to Gia (the office manager) she was not sympathetic and told me that they do not guarantee you will see the baby's face and she refused to refund any portion of my payment - which you pay prior to the sonogram. She also went as far as to tell me that due to the positioning of my baby there was no point in trying another sonogram in a few weeks because the baby would most likely not change positions.

I was so disappointed and upset. But shame on me for not reading there website closer - which does not guarantee any pictures of the baby's face. If you're going to get this elective procedue done please do your research first. There are SO many other facilities out there that WILL refund your money or allow you to come back at no additional charge - not Motherhood Sonogram. I hope this posting saves at least one couple the disappointment that me and my husband experienced.

Good grief.

Thanks for letting us know - I was just looking into this.

I was high risk and had to get multiple sonograms. The machine they used one time was the 3 d and they gave me one of those pictures. Quite frankly the image was eerie and a bit creepy. Before you spend a bunch of money on this, you may want to consider that even if they catch the face its not really a cute baby photo.

I totally agree. My friend just sent me hers on my cell phone and it scared the bejesus out of me when I opened it.

I actually got a cute 3d pic of my daughter at 37 weeks, it was one of those lucky shots (i had to wait a long time for the sono, so the technician gave it to me for having had to wait for so long) she looked exactly like that when she was born a week later.

I really don't understand why you left this negative post. What do you expect them to do when it's not possible to get the picture you want? You used the time and machine, why shouldn't you have to pay?

I think these elective sonograms are not a good idea in the first place.

Agree with this poster. They really have no control over this and you've used their time and equipment. I think everyone understands the "risk" of baby not being in a good position for vanity shots. It isn't glamour shots, you know?

I so agree with the PPs. I think the OP needs a little perspective. First of all, OBs don't recommend more sonograms than are medically necessary. Secondly, if this is the biggest problem you have in your pregnancy, please just be thankful.

The OP is providing us with practical information - some places refund if you don't get a good shot and some don't. I am sure this will be of use to a number of people.

Of course we should all be grateful for healthy pregnancies or those aspects that are going well but that doesn't mean pregnant women suddenly don't care if they are treated well or how to avoid wasting hundreds of dollars.

Hundreds of dollars? Wow. You only have to wait a few more weeks!

Unless absolutely necessarily, elective sonograms are NOT good for baby/fetus.

It's not their fault that the baby is positioned away from the camera.

It's up to the consumer to know what they're buying/paying for. Buyer beware.

Right, and the OP is helping future buyers beware.

Whether multiple sonograms is a problem is open to dispute; WedMD reports a study that says they are no problem and my OB had no objection. We should admit that the medical community doesn't take one view of this one.

No, this isn't true. The medical community has absolutely nothing against multiple u/s during pregnancy. You would not be able to find any reputable and mainstream medical source that says they're not safe.

They are completely safe for mother and child. I had so many I lost count - I had a very high risk pregnancy and my perinatologist gave them to me weekly at one point. I did some research at the time and talked to a lot of doctors - all said they were safe.
