Any experience with Life of Fred math books? Full disclosure: we don't homeschool. My DD attends a Montessori elementary school and is in 1st grade. I'm just looking to supplement some math learning at home without doing a bunch of books. Open to other suggestions too |
I find them a a bit extra. Tries to hard to be wacky, that ends up being distracting from the ideas being communicated.
Beast Academy has fun comic style but stays on topic. |
I don’t want a computer program/game though. I want something for us to work on together |
Beast Academy has paper books. |
I think Life of Fred is a pretty fun supplement. Kids can get into the story. It is not really a stand alone program, and the wordiness can distract.
Beast Academy is entirely math focused, and a complete curriculum, but is also designed for the 95+% math student who likes that kind of puzzle solving. |
I have some LOF books and tried it last year, but my son has no interest. I may try it again, but he did enjoy the Beast Academy demo. We also supplement with math games. There are so many good math board games. |
I had 3 kids that adored life of Fred. We read them out loud and the kids laughed so much. I think they would be great for a supplement. |
Beast has a version that is just comic books and workbooks. I like both LOF and Beast, but from what you describe I would pick Beast. |
Life of Fred gets old fast. But my kid liked it around 1st grade. |
