Just curious... how many swimmers do private lessons on top of club practices for technique? I like where my daughter swims, but she could use some technique work that I think she could only get from private lessons. If you have any suggestions in Northern Virginia (Springfield area), let me know. Particular fly, start/turns. She is 9. |
kid's year-round coach offers lessons in summer. my kid did 3 last summer and the 1 on 1 was really helpful. I would ask year-round coach. |
Not sure if I would worry at 9 about that. But you can do private lessons at St James pretty easily. It can be tough to do private unless it is with your year round coach because lane time is tough. |
Go to St James website. Pick the coach you want to use and schedule. Pretty easy. |
My kid has done some private lessons with a coach at our club and they feel like they have gotten a lot out of those. It’s not a coach that my kid currently swims for, so hearing a new voice with fresh perspective helps too. |
Any recs at the Saint James? |
We saw Marye Clark. She coaches at the St James but does private lessons at the St James. |
I think this is the type of thing that most people do every sporadically. Like if you notice your kid is compensating or has bad form, the 1 or 2 private lessons can help correct it.
I don’t think most people schedule regular private lessons on top of club. That sounds like a lot. |
My kids did a handful of private lessons when they were 8&U. Maybe one or 2 at 9/10 but if they are club and swim several times a week, it’s not really needed. Just keep going to practices. That what helps the most. |
I agree with this. Private coaching is to help a one off thing. You do one or two sessions and then you are good. At club you are doing tons of drills to work on strokes and with time it gets where it needs to be. I would definitely do private lessons if a swimmer's stroke mechanics were off and it could lead to injury. Fix those things quickly. |
