What does hot flash feel like?

Anonymous
I am 41 and sometimes feel warm in the face and under my bra strap… is that a hot flash? It’s mild no flushing no sweating. I recently have shorter cycle but that could be due to a recent mymectomy.. The internet is very vague “warm sensation” wtf does that mean?!

For me it was like someone lit a furnace under me. It was quick and vicious, but it lasted maybe 60 seconds. I couldn't take my layers off fast enough, only to be freezing cold right after. it's a fun ride....

Warm in the face is how I'd describe my early days of hot flashes.

It's awful. My face gets hot and I start to sweat around my hairline and on my face. Occasionally bad enough to drip a bit. Doesn't last for more than a couple of minutes. I get very flushed in the face, too.

I've put up with it for years and it is only getting worse, so I'm going to see about HRT.

You’re just sitting there and suddenly you feel hot. There’s been no change in the situation—no one adjusted the thermostat or turned off the A/C. It’s completely situational to you and you alone. You feel like the only relief is to open the freezer door and stand there for a minute. And then it’s gone.

Thanks for your descriptions, PPs. I'm not in perimenopause yet, but this is part of my panic attack symptoms, wanting to climb into the freezer. It can last for dozens of minutes. And then I'm cold. Not OP, BTW.

My feels like a wave of heat rises up from inside me. My face burns especially hot but chest and torso too. Mine last a few minutes.

Is it actually heat, like a fever, or is it a nerve/mental phenomenal in how it feels?

Yes, actual heat. You can get flushed and start sweating. It’s real.

For me it's the opposite, when I get anxious or have a panic attack I am freezing, to the point of shivering, I bought a heated pad for my bed. I am in perimenopause. Feeling hot is very unusual for me.

I definitely feel the heat in my face, back, chest. It’s a sudden super hot feeling where you feel like you need air, take off clothes, kinda thing. It’s more than warm - it’s an intense heat.

This sounds like night sweats if you only get it at night from being under the covers. I wouldn't think it's unique to menopause. I always thought hot flashes is something more extreme you get during the day.

For me it was like a warmth from the inside. I never minded them but then I can go through the entire summer with no air conditioning. It’s not the same as being hot though because it comes from the inside.

Rapid increase in temperature. But not from an external Source.

I told my 16yo it feels like I’m standing under a heat lamp that someone turned on and I didn’t notice.
