No more PARCC?

Heard today that PARCC was going away and being replaced by CAPE. DC is still doing the same standardized testing but just calling it by a different name, right?

Yes because no other states are doing Parcc.

Are there any practical benefits for the kids for CaAPE over PARCC? Or is it all just more Pearson?

It sounds like renaming PARCC to CAPE will be game changer, significantly raising academic quality in DC and ensuring that DCPS becomes the gold standard for standardized testing not only in the country but the world.

When other states have made this transition they’ve shortened the test. That would be nice.

What other states or school districts use CAPE?

None.

OSSE is saying it’s the same test but a new name… but this isn’t actually possible. No one knows anything other than a paragraph released by OSSE.

UGH how do we prepare kids for a test no one has seen??

I mean in theory you aren't supposed to prepare kids for these tests. They are supposed to be assessments of learning what they are supposed to be learning anyway

I am aware that's not how it actually works, which is why I hate these tests.

Some states have “dropped PARCC” but gone with a “different” test from the same company (Pearson) that covers the same material. These tests tend to be branded for the individual states, because that makes them more politically palatable. At least some of these alternate tests are adaptive, which makes them faster, which would be good.

I wouldn’t even be sure that OSSE is driving the change. Since we’re the only ones left using PARCC and we’re so small, Pearson probably wants to shift us over to something else that they’re already running under another name so they don’t need to go on running PARCC just for us. And we should probably want that too, since DC has a very small, very atypical student population, and one of the things we want to learn from these tests is how our kids compare to the outside world.

“Beginning in the 2023-24 school year, DC has implemented a new name for its general statewide assessment system, which includes assessments in English language arts/literacy (ELA), mathematics and science.”

DC says that it is just a rebranding.

I have been told that it's just rebranding. The PARCC elicits negative reactions from parnts, so DC has asked for the PARCC's name to be changed to something DC-specific. The result? District of Columbia Comprehensive Assessments of Progress in Education. Literally no other change. That doesn't mean that there can't be in the future, but this year it is the exact same test.

Wow, they must think parents are total morons to think changing the name would change our minds.

The same but doesn't take as long? Or it does take the same amount of time?
