"Ivy League" or "Princeton" haircut?

Anonymous
After much googling, I think this is the term for the kind of haircut I'd like my son to have. He's struggled with cuts that are too long, too short, hair sticking straight up in the back... He wants pretty short sides and back but I like him to have style able hair on top and in front.

I think fades are too close to the skin for my taste. Similar with French crop; too much contrast between buzzing down to skin level and long hair on top. Am I right that the "Ivy League" is what I'm looking for? Would also love if anyone finds a particularly good picture to show the barber.

Don’t worry about the name of the hairstyle because that’s not really a thing and there’s no way the barber will have the same understanding as you. Just find pictures of what you want.

Isn't that just a crew cut? I think I would tell the stylist that plus provide pictures.

Wut?

Your only hope is to find a picture of what you want and show it to a good barber.

An Ivy League is a crew cut with the hair on the top of the head left long enough to part.

Give him some pics to browse for ideas but then butt out and let him get the hair cut he wants. My niece and nephew went there, many of their male classmates had sikh or jewish style head gear and females had muslim hijab scarf and no one batted eyes. Every hairstyle or headgear is acceptable.

It was a 1950s WASP style.

Last time he told the barber he wanted to be bald like daddy but have hair. Haircut turned out terrible.
