Grape tomatoes squirting

Anonymous
How do I keep grape tomatoes from squirting everywhere when I mash them after baking in the oven? They got all over my shirt, the stove, other dishes, the counter…

Cut them before you cook them.

Yup. You don’t even need to cut them up - just puncture them so they burst/squirt/leak while they are roasting

How are you mashing them? I use a potato masher and press very gently and I have never had any squirting problems. Are you mashing with reckless abandon?

Uhhhh ... like with a fork and knife while I was shredding chicken that also baked in the pan with the tomatoes.

No. I baked chicken with the tomatoes, then shredded chicken and squirted tomatoes mashing them, then poured in pasta and a couple scoops of ricotta and mixed it all together.
