My child just started at Discovery this year. I’ve heard there is a lot of teacher turnover, especially in the upper grades. Is there a reason for this? |
Historically it was Admin support relating to addressing misbehavior. Admin was keen on punishing a whole class and sending out notes to an entire class asking parents to address behavior issues as opposed to specifically disciplining the children exhibiting the behaviors. In some prior years, some of the fifth grade students were so poorly misbehaved that teachers left midyear. |
Teachers leave when they don't get support from admin. |
Considering buying a house in-bounds for Discovery. Is this still an issue (re behavior)? Looking on these boards I see a lot of negative comments about Discovery, including behavior and academic preparedness. Is it really that big of a downgrade from Jamestown and Taylor? |
No. It’s no different- truly. |
Thank you so much! |
The entire 5th grade team left after last year. |
The kids are overwhelmingly wealthy and entitled and admin doesn't lift a finger around bullying and don't support their staff in classroom management. |
My children have had a good experience at Discovery, probably because they just stay out of the drama. But the turnover is super-high. It is higher than anywhere else? I don't know. |
My friend's kid's teacher left suddenly mid year. Kid is in middle school now and felt less prepared than neighboring schools. |
My kid goes to WMS but in 6th grade a kid didn’t know something in math and the teacher said “did you go to discovery? The discovery kids are always behind.” I have no clue if this is true, but I do hear people say it’s very meh. |
The whole 5th grade team left? So who is teaching 5th grade this year? |
Discovery should have never been built. So, there is that... |
They hired new teachers. Nottingham 5th grade had to hire 2/3 new 5th grade teachers as well. |
Yikes!! |
