I’ve read it’s appropriate and allowed, but I am not sure if it should be. |
It's fine.
His·pan·ic adjective relating to Spain or to Spanish-speaking countries, especially those of Latin America. |
It’s not that complicated. Why do you care? |
Because my child asked me for her applications. |
I thought Scotus ended this tomfoolery? |
If you mean on the Common App, the Supreme Court has already decided that race/ethnicity questions won't be part of college applications. |
So it’s not on common app? Where would the question appear? |
NP. What exactly has she asked for the common app? I’m skeptical you aren’t a troll, but we were in this situation in the last few years and if you can relay the exact precise question(s) your daughter is apparently confused about from the common app, I will give more precise recommendations. |
Of course.
It is telling the truth. |
Yes, its fine.
Hispanic refers to someone whose ancestry is Spanish speaking. Spanish is a language or citizenship Latino is an ethnicity that refers to a person whose origins are in Latin America. You're the fist one - Hispanic. |
Common App, Demographics section: Are you Hispanic or Latino/a/x? Yes No Clear answer Regardless of your answer to the prior question, please indicate how you identify yourself. (You may select one or more) American Indian or Alaska Native Asian Black or African American Native Hawaiian or Other Pacific Islander White |
I understand what you mean, OP, but then consider that all my friends from Central or South America are wealthy white Caucasian landowners from the upper echelons of their society. Do you think they're part of the oppressors or the oppressed? You bet they check the Hispanic box, and without lying at all.
If you're from Spain, it's just as ethically dubious as what they're doing. It's like everyone and their ChatGPT mother editing their kids' college essay drafts. Is it wrong if it's allowed, and a plurality (or majority) of people are doing the same thing? I have no answer to this question, but I just want to tell you: the system is wrong. Whatever you choose to do, I don't think you carry any moral blame. |
I’m sure thr Spaniards refer to themselves as Europeans and not Hispanics, but whatevs |
People from Spain are European. This just highlights the absurdity of the system. |
Common app hasn’t changed yet ? |
