| Hi Jeff, I was just scrolling through a thread in the SN subforum, and I got redirected to a sketchy "Your computer has been infected with a virus, click here to scan it now" type sites. I know you're working on some things with the ads, and I can only assume this is something to do with that (on the advertisers end, not your fault), since I've never had it happen before on DCUM. |
| OP. Just got another redirect. This time to a site telling me I was running an outdated version of Chrome. I did take a screenshot, if that would be helpful to you. |
|
Unfortunately, the pop-ups are not uncommon. Don't do anything on the sites to which you get redirected. That will only infect your computer. I''ll try to track this down and block it.
Thanks for the screenshot, but it probably won't help me. |
| Thanks for trying to track it down to block it! Thankfully I know better than to click anything on those types of sites. |
| Who is your ad provider? |
I work with about 8 different networks. |
| This is still happening. So annoying. Doesn't happen on mobile, only desktop. |
The strange thing is that nobody other than you has reported this. I am also using a Mac and I have not seen it. You might try clearing your cache or clearing cookies. You could be getting the luck of the draw with ad targeting. But it is strange that there are no other reports. Which browser are you using? |
| Not PP, Chrome on a mac and I get popups |
Using Chrome. I will try clearing the cache and cookies! |
Also maybe try using Safari or Firefox for a day or two and see if they have the same issue. |
| I'm on a Mac and this just happened to me. |
Okay, so there is as second one. What browser do you use? |
I should note that my pop actually said "Mac OS has identified a threat to your computer." I could tell it was obviously not a message on my OS. It also said "Do not close this page until you have resolved the threat." I of course closed the page
Hope this is helpful. |
