dh refused to sign laptop acceptance form so school won't send home laptop

Anonymous
The school doesn't have computer insurance, so if anything happens to this laptop, we would be on the hook to buy a new one. Dh refused to sign it because he didn't want to be on the hook for buying a new one. We have a 3-year-old who would 100 percent break it. The school hasn't explained why they want the computers to be sent home. Is it so they are charged at home? Do they have online homework? I was ready to sign it but dh said no. I think he's mad our school taxes were 10k this year, and he doesn't believe young children need to do work on computers.

If he doesn't believe young children should learn how to use computers. I really have nothing to tell you..... Hopefully your kid gets a job in a coal mine I guess?

90% of our children's school gets on a computer nowadays.... They're both in elementary school.

My daughter is in fourth and got a laptop for the year. I think it’s dumb that they don’t cover losses though.

Don't be so dense. Kids know how to use computers because they do it at home.

Why aren't you parenting your 3 year old better?

If it's public school, they can either give it to the kid and accept that the parents won't be liable or they can find away to assign them appropriate work without it. The year covid, half of my 4th grade DD's class refused to sign digital consent forms and they had no choice but to drop computer learning

There is a lot to unpack in that original post.....an out of control 3-year-old.... An ignorant husband..... And a clueless and hopeless wife

So they won’t send it home. No big deal for a 3 year old. Elem school will need one, but you can buy your own if you don’t want to be responsible for the school’s.

I'm with your DH. No 3 year old needs a laptop. No 3 year old should have the responsibility for one. I'd question why a school would put a 3 year old in front of a screen for even a minute.

Is the laptop for your 3 year old? Or is it for a sibling? I'm assuming you possess other electronics in your home, and your 3 year old hasn't destroyed them?

I don't think the 3 year old is getting a laptop. An elementary aged child is. But apparently the 3 year old is so out of control they will break the laptop.

I read it that the 3yo is a sibling to the schoolage child.

Ask the teacher whether your older child needs a school laptop at home for homework, and whether there will charging or other issues if your child keeps their laptop in school.

Depending on what the teacher says, sign the consent form or not.

Your husband is an idiot. Yes, we all deplore screen use in elementary! But this is how it is these days.

Your electronics at home need better protection. Keep them on a high shelf, and have your elementary aged child use them only with your supervision. Continue to teach your 3 year old that touching electronics is not allowed.

OP didn’t say the computer was for the 3 year old, only that their 3 year old would break the computer. I can’t imagine a school sending home a Chromebook for a pre-schooler, nor can I understand why a 3 year old would be likely to or be in a position to break a sibling’s computer. This family seems to have some serious problems.

Do you mean tuition?
