Consistency vs Potential

Some games my daughter is the best on the field… other games she is off. She has all the potential. How important is consistency for top D1 school recruiting?

How old is she?

-Age?
-Proper nutrition (carbs and protein?)
-Proper mental motivation (is she receiving negative feedback from parents, teammates or coaches?)
-Burnout? Too many activities and outside training scheduled?

14… very fit, healthy habits, trains hard. Consistency in touch, weight on ball, shots on goal is missing game to game. Streaky player… string of great games, followed by great effort but missed opportunities.

Sounds like she is doing all the right things. I'd wager it is more of a transitional period in her life and lots of girls her age are like that. However, its hard to notice how normal that is with all the kids because you couldn't possibly be as focused on other kids as you are with your own child, its probably just a little bias that has you overly concerned. Has anyone better started to show her up (relating to skills)? That could shake her finishing confidence as she doubts her top-dog status? Or i'ts just a phase. -Hard to say, but some time and consistency usually help.

If she's consistent she will get recruited. If she's not, she will get recruited if she has a good day when the head coach comes to watch .

I read stats for soccer players 2022-23 there were about 400,000 high school girl soccer players and about 40,000 college spots. My take with stats like that is players need both- potential and consistency. Too many other players to pick from if so t have both.

Consistency is very important as they get older and esp when they look to get into D1.

Recruits will talk with coaches and if the coach would frame her the way u did - that’s a no go. There are too many good players out there who have both to select from.

Above stats are for all divisions. D1 takes you down to some 300 colleges and about 10,000 players.
